The Beast with 171 Labs
Today I had oatmeal for the first time. It was not as bad as I expected, though that's probably the maple and brown sugar talking. I feel so...fibrous.
Dexter
This season is so fucking creepy, and I am loving it. I keep having "Man, I love this show" moments. It's just so good.
Trinity isn't even Trinity! He's...Quartet? Quatrain? Ack, that poor kid! He handled himself surprisingly well for a kidnapped child. I suppose it helps when your kidnapper is more broken than malicious.
I wish they were doing more with the fact that Dexter killed an innocent man. He should be more broken up about that.
I thought Arthur was going to kill Christine, probably when he stopped by that night, but the cops got to her first. I was wrong about her history, though; I had assumed she'd been brought up knowing about her dad, but instead it was just this weird trauma she carried around with her until she finally figured it out thirty years later. I wonder who her mother is. I wonder if it's one of Harry's old flames. Maybe it's Laura Moser! Heh.
Friday Night Lights
This is such an amazing show. Saracen's dinner breakdown made me cry actual tears. I think this should be up there with "The Body" in the Realistic Depictions of Grief on Television Hall of Fame. I loved how the entire episode built to that moment, with Matt cracking in little moments here and there, trying to be strong, trying to hold it in until it all inevitably pours out. When he looked at his dad's body...his eyes! Just became wet! They were just so wet! And poor Zach Gilford won't be recognized by any sort of awards committee. It's like tripoli says:Zach Gilford. Zach Gilford. Zach Gilford is one of those guys who I've only ever seen play one character, so it's hard to judge, but the guy never seems like he's acting.
The dirt-shoveling at the end reminded me of the Six Feet Under pilot.
They brought back Lyla and didn't even give her any lines! That was...damn. This show doesn't play by the TV rules.
I don't want Vince to start stealing cars! But I do want Luke to ditch his jackass friends, so good on him.
Oh, Riggins is being sensible and doing the right thing! He really has grown. I guess Becky can go after Luke instead.
FlashForward
So they really shouldn't turn on the LHC, should they? Simon doesn't think they did it, but it sure does seem like a big coincidence! I rather enjoyed his "unparalleled genius" act, and I am intrigued by D. Gibbons's having built the particle wave phaser laser booster thingummies before Simon thought of them.
Mark's an asshole, and he's finally paid the price! I remember back in the first few episodes when I liked him, and then he was just growly all the time, and now he threatens to have one Persian kidnapped and goes ahead and actually kidnaps another. Plus, he's apparently going to kill Demetri in the future! You're all kinds of suck, Mark! I do wonder how much we can trust whatsername, though. She may have seen the serial number of his gun, but she could be bluffing about who pulled the trigger. Because that gun is still around now.
Whatsername the babysitter is pretty! And Janis really doesn't like penis!
Are people still watching this show? I keep hearing that people are giving it up.
Fringe
Oh, Walter. Oh, Ms. Farnsworth! They were so cute and so sad. Walter is trying so hard, and Peter is understandably worried about him, and it's a difficult situation.
Also there were giant parasitic worms.
The Office
I could barely watch the main plot, waiting for the shoe to drop, but it wasn't as awful as I expected. But good God, Michael. Although Erin did have a point.
Dwight's impersonations of Kevin, Stanley, and Toby were hilarious. Hee. And now Ryan wants in! How diabolical.
I don't understand why Jim was even in the running. Couldn't he have excluded himself from the chart and still have it be anonymous? That didn't make sense. What also doesn't make sense is everyone turning on Jim so easily. It's weird.

I hope Liz doesn't keep crying from her mouth. It's disturbing.
Frank slowly turning into Liz was amusing, though.
Dollhouse
Oh man, it's been so long since this show's been on that I've forgotten what the hell is going on. Something something Rossum what? This is a change from last season, when nothing was going on.
The first episode had so much going on that I didn't even notice there was no Victor or Sierra! Perrin was the Active! Awesome twist. My first reaction to that whole "Remind me why I love you" bit was, "Ick, gross." My second reaction was, "Ick, GROSS. But it reminds me of the handler call-and-response. Probably just coincidence." But it wasn't! Which makes it less gross and more icky.
Man, they keep coming up with new ways to ask fucked-up questions about identity! I think I may have vaguely considered this idea at some point, so it's cool to see it in action: an Active whose imprint is of himself. It makes it harder to separate who the "real" Perrin is. The current Perrin is not the same person as the pre-Active Perrin, but he's still Perrin. Or is he? Again, does he have any right to that body? Surely he has more right than the other long-term personalities. At least he sort of belongs there.
(When Ballard declared, "No one ever really leaves, do they?" I had the random thought tonight that Dollhouse could have been sort of like The Prisoner, with Echo as Number Six and Adele as Number Two. I feel like there are a lot of similarities, and if they had used that template, it would have been a different show, but all the pieces are there and available. It could have maybe made the stand-alone episodes better.)
I loved the editing of the fight between Echo and Cynthia! That was so damn cool and really helped show how her previous imprints were informing her current behavior. And gave an indication of how unstoppable a true composite would be.
Summer Glau rarely gets to play normal characters, does she. At times, I felt like she was just doing Her Usual Thing, but when they revealed the darker shades of her character, she got to be different.
It's funny how in the very episode that I thought, "You know, they haven't really touched on Caroline very much this season. Which is fine since I don't care about Caroline, so maybe they don't anymore either," we got some more information on Caroline! And that information is...that she kind of sucks!
Victor-as-Topher FOR THE WIN! (Ha ha ha I love that he said that.) Enver Gjokaj never ceases to amaze. He had Topher down. I mean, everything, from the way he moved to the timbre of his voice to the way he sucked in his breath at times. That guy has amazing control of his...everything. When they were talking to each other! Hilarity! And then when they were in the same room! It was just! Just! Oh man. Those guys.
Topher and Bennett were cute in their burgeoning supergenius love except for the part where she was a sadistic monster and all.
I'm still a little confused about the evil plan. Did Perrin revert to his original programming? Because what he said at the hearing seemed to be what he was supposed to say before he became self-aware. Unless what he said was somehow damaging and the right thing to do. Although wasn't he originally supposed to out only the L.A. Dollhouse to screw them over but make Rossum out to be heroes? I'm not sure how this all works. And what the hell is Bennett going to do to Madeline?
Damn. See, at the beginning of the two episodes, I had forgotten so much that I just thought, whatever, show, you're going to be over, and it's sad, but alas. But the show is so cool and intriguing now! There are backstabbing Dollhouses! And bad guys who are badder than our bad guys! And somehow our bad guys don't seem as bad. I am rooting for them and stuff! Is that wrong?
