WonderCon 2009, Day 2: Meeting Famous People

Mar 01, 2009 02:43

Day 2 was to be more eventful than Day 1, as usual! Saturday is serious business at WonderCon. I would see a lot more costumes, for one. When I boarded the BART train, I sat across from a girl dressed as the Comedian. She and her friend noticed my WonderCon bag and asked me which stop to get off at. I know these things.

She was very nice, as expected.

I haven't finished the whole entry yet, but I"m pausing to nitpick.

"That sounds like a Sci-Fi Channel Original Movie," I said. "Do they know what 'quantum' means? Do they realize that would be a very small apocalypse?"
But "quantum" doesn't mean small. Quantum as an adjective in these sorts of contexts does generally refer to quantum mechanics which deals with very small things, but the word "quantum" comes in because of the discrete energies, not because of the smallness of things. But quantum as an adjective also apparently means "large, significant" (according to Merriam Webster).

Well, that's the last time I learn my words from Bond movies.
