How I Met Your Mother? More Like "Cow, I Et Yer Brother!"

How I Met Your Mother was sort of like 30 Rock in that I didn't hear great things about it early on, but then, as the months went by, it seemed like everyone I knew had become a huge fan. I was skeptical because it was a regular sitcom, but the lines people often quoted were pretty funny, and when the end of "Slap Bet" rolled around, I had an ( Read more... )

Most people don't like Ted, but I do. I have a little bit of a crush on him.

Cobie Smulders is really hot.
Yeah, she is. But she intimidates me because SHE IS THE SAME AGE AS ME. People that seem that with-it and put together have to be at least ten years older than me, maybe five if they're really mature, and she's not. She kind of makes me feel like a loser, but, whatever, I like Robin, too.

I am gathering this! And they also don't like Ted and Robin together! I appear to be some sort of anomaly!

Role model, then!

I didn't dislike Ted and Robin, but it was made clear extremely early on (the pilot, I believe?) that she was not the mother, so I understand why a lot of people were upset that the show spent so much time hooking them up and then keeping them together.

Well, Ted didn't know that! Only Future Ted knew that! Even though we know she's not the Mother, there're such things as character development and learning from relationships! Come on, people. Work with me here.

I liked Robin and Ted. But I didn't let myself get too invested in them, either, knowing that Robin wasn't The Mother. I think there's a reason for them spending so much time on the relationship beyond just character development, though. I think Robin plays a big role in Ted meeting The Mother.

Oh, she'd better. Otherwise, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to start with meeting her.
