FLCL? More Like Woolly Bully!

I had come across the name FLCL before in casual searches, but I didn't have a real desire to watch it until I learned that it was listed as an influence for my beloved Avatar. Then, following a posting of this awesome FLCL/Eva "Under Pressure"/"Ice, Ice, Baby" mash-up vid, duchessdogberry remarked that FLCL was her favorite anime. And, well, I knew she had good Read more... )

FLCL is brilliant, but it broke my brain multiple times. ME! MY BRAIN!

You know my brain, and how it does not function on the same plane as most, so think about that for a while.

I own it, though.

Next on your anime smorgasbord should be Serial Experiment Lain. It's awesomesauce, as the kids say. 4 discs, 12 eps. Should only take you a couple of days to get through.

Emily and I are going to spend a depressing several hours watching that when she gets back. I've been wanting to watch it for yeeeeeeeears. It sounds way cool.

It is. It was one of the first series I bought in one fell swoop sight unseen, based purely on the cover art. I haven't regretted it once.

YES! This is the truth!

Plus, it makes an interesting flip-side to FLCL as being the girl side of the cracked coming-of-age story.

I have not seen this series. Perhaps I should.

I guess it's apparent I actually have no taste? Katie did show me a bunch of Child's Toy at Rice, and I enjoyed that. I hadn't seen an entire series until Princess Tutu, though. And then the damage was done. It's a different style of storytelling, but it's still good storytelling. Mostly.

FLCL = one of my favorite anime. I have a limited edition poster of Haruko on my wall. And of course I have the soundtrack!

It's been a long time since I watched FLCL, but I still remember how crazy it was. Hilarious and bizarre and frenzied. It didn't make much sense to me, but I laughed my ass off.

Something that hadn't occurred to me before: the protruding horn as a metaphor for embarassing erections?

So what's next in your tour of the world of anime?

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which is apparently like the most popular anime of all time in Japan.

Hmm... I've never seen that one. It hit the air at a time when I wasn't watching much anime. Might have to give it a shot.

I'm obligated to continue nagging you to watch Cowboy Bebop, however, because that's a series I think everyone should see. You just *know* you want to watch kung fu gunfights in outer space set to jazz music. :)
