Fireworks
David/Gregg; PG; 279 words.

Gregg’s laugh is infectious, David knows. He’s with a group of their friends. David watches him for a few minutes--his dimpled cheeks, the straight line of his teeth--before he pushes his way through the crowd of people.

Gregg’s eyes light up when he spots him. “Finally, I thought you’d never get here,” Gregg exclaims. David wonders if he’s had a couple of drinks. His brown eyes are hazy, and there’s a pink hue coloring his cheeks and neck.

“Miss me that much?” David teases. Gregg blushes, and shakes his head in embarrassment. David grins as he slides in next to him on the bench.

Gregg’s face glows when the fireworks shoot off above them. David barely notices that everyone has gotten up to get a better view of the display. The cackle of the firecrackers and the cheers a distant murmur, he watches the pure fascination and wonder flicker across Gregg’s face when he looks up at the burst of color in the dark sky.

“This is brilliant,” he breathes.

Maybe, David thinks, he can feel his gaze on him because he turns to him curiously. The wind picks up, fluttering his hair on his forehead. David can’t hold back the urge to reach out and brush the hair from his face. Gregg pulls his bottom lip between his teeth, eyes glimmering, like he’s holding onto something. David feels stupid for feeling like this, feeling happy when a slow, sweet smile grows on Gregg’s face.

He’s close. David lets him come closer.

It’s only when Gregg covers his mouth with his own that David realizes that this--this is what they were meant to be doing forever.
