Sam walked slowly across the gangway with her brow furrowed in confusion. She’d called John several times on his radio to no answer. She’d called Ronon, to see where John was and as well, received no response. Tapping her radio again as she wandered into the quiet control room, that at the moment housed a very curious yet silent, Chuck, she radioed Major Lorne.

Still nothing.

Thank goodness no emergency had arisen because at the moment, she was confused and short three of her senior male staff. Not to mention the ones she hadn’t attempted to contact yet.

“Chuck, do you know where the Colonel is?” she asked, resting her hands against his console.

“No ma’am.” He shook his head. Though she had a feeling, for some strange reason, that he did.

“Right.” She slowly began to wander again, tapping her stylus against her hand trying to think of where they could be. She hadn’t approved use for a jumper to the mainland, and with Colonel Sheppard’s ridiculous fear of the snake like creature that lived there, she couldn’t see him purposely hijacking a jumper just to get there. He’d fought against going more times than she could count within the past few weeks of being here.

“Teyla!” she caught the woman walking across the gateroom. Teyla stopped silently and waited as Carter jogged down the steps, awkward and slippery as they were in her boots. She couldn’t believe the stories from the control room staff that Dr. Weir used to clear these stairs in heels no less.

“Teyla, I was wondering if you’d be able to help me?”

The athosian woman hadn’t really given Sam the time of day since she was given command, though there was no malice behind her avoidance. She chalked it up simply to the deep friendship the young woman had shared with Elizabeth. Something like that couldn’t be so easily replaced so Sam never pushed it, or her.

“I shall assit you if it is within my ability to do so.”

“Um, I was wondering. Do you know where Colonel Sheppard is? Or Ronon and Lorne for that matter? I seem to be able to reach none of them on their radios.”

Teyla thought for a moment. “Have you tried Dr’s McKay or Zelenka?”

“Yeah, earlier, no response either.”

Teyla nodded as she thought. “You’re earth days? Which would today be?”

Sam looked up at the ceiling for a moment biting her lip to think. “Ah, Thursday, why?”

Teyla smiled a secretive smile before heading a few steps down the hall, then turning back to beckon Sam. “Please, follow me.”

**

Sam stood in the doorway with a strange look on her face, confusion, Teyla thought. Though there was a little something else in her eyes as she noted each man in the room.

Dr. McKay was curled up on the sofa, asleep with his head on the arm. Ronon sat beside him, head tilted and resting on the back of the chair as he stared at the screen intently, one hand in a bowl of popcorn and every now and then popping a piece in his mouth. Dr. Zelenka sat on a large cushion on the floor his elbow on his knee and his chin in his hand, Lorne was sprawled across his own sofa, shovelling what looked like melted cheese on Tofu into his mouth while Colonel Sheppard sat back in the large armchair hugging a cushion to his chest with his feet crossed casually out in front of him.

The sight of them like this wasn’t such a surprise. The Tofu was a little bit, but she honestly didn’t know Lorne’s taste’s personally. What confused her was their choice of movie and the fact that the time of week had been what made Teyla think to look for them here.

“I don’t understand.” Sam whispered, so as not to disturb the men, many of whom were drifting off to sleep along with Rodney.

Teyla smiled gently and pulled Sam closer to her so that she could whisper.

“That cushion, the tofu, the movie Casablanca and the popcorn heavily coated in butter…these things were all favourites of Elizabeth’s.”

Sam stared at her wide-eyed, glanced at the men again then turned back to Teyla. “You mean, they do this all the time?”

“Thursday was Elizabeth’s favourite day of the Earth week because her father used to buy her chocolate chip icecream when she was a child.”

A tear sprang to Sam’s eye as she realised what all of this meant.

“They love her.” Teyla whispered, making Sam look at her again. “They respect you, Colonel Carter, a great deal. But they all loved Elizabeth in their way. Not even I can convince them her absence is permanent. Nor would I want to.”

“So…” Sam choked on her words. “So what do I do?”

Teyla smiled and patted Sam’s shoulder as she walked partly into the room. “Let them be.” Then Teyla walked slowly into the room and sat down in the space between Rodney and Ronon, resting her head against Ronon’s chest as she stole a piece of popcorn from the bowl.

Sam glanced at the group again then turned and headed for her-Elizabeth’s office to made the most idiotic proposal of her career. Landry would look at her like she’d lost her mind but as her pace quickened she knew that she had to do it. Because she didn’t belong here.

The End.
