John walked into Elizabeth’s quarters slowly. She was standing by the window watching the waves crash against the piers as the whales moved away from the city. He winced slightly when the door made a loud sound as it closed, though when she didn’t even flinch he grinned; she was still tone deaf.
He tip-toed across the room, because you can never be too cautious when it comes to Elizabeth Weir, like a lioness waiting in the tall grass, she could pounce on him at any moment and he wouldn’t even see it coming.
John took a deep breath at the same time she did, smiling as her shoulders relaxed and her head rolled a little. Moving up behind her he slowly raised his hands until he was right behind her head before quickly covering her eyes to which she jumped clean out of her skin, letting out a squeal to rival Rodney in the middle of a colony of Iratus bugs.
“JOHN!” she shouted, grabbing his hands and he wondered if it was her lack of hearing that made her yell, or the fact that he’d startled her. “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!?” she shouted again and he figured it was her hearing.
He just laughed and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, leaning in to whisper in her ear. “So, feeling better?” Elizabeth didn’t answer, just slapped his hand and moved away from him.
“THAT WAS CHILDISH AND INNAPRORIATE!”
“Elizabeth, I’m right here, you don’t have to yell.”
“WHAT?” she scrunched her face in confusion.
“I said! YOU DON’T HAVE TO YELL.”
Elizabeth scrunched up her nose again and waved a hand at him in dismissal. “YOU YELLED PLENTY WHEN YOU WERE DEAF.” She pouted and John smirked.
“You’re cute when you can’t have what you want.” John muttered and Elizabeth made her way across to her desk, not hearing what he’d said.
“WRITE ON HERE!” she yelled and John smiled as he took the pen and paper. He leant over the desk, well aware of Elizabeth watching his every move, as he wrote something down.
‘Do you need anything?’ he held it out to her and Elizabeth nodded.
“COFFEE” she answered and John laughed openly to which she smiled.
‘What about an iPod?’ He smirked and held the paper up to her.
“BASTARD.” She replied before she laughed out loud. “THIS IS SO RIDICULOUS.”
“You’re telling me.”
Elizabeth cocked her head like a confused puppy and John found it to be the most adorable thing she’d ever done.
‘I know what you mean.’ He wrote down for her and Elizabeth nodded with a smile. They stood there for a moment, just staring at each other in the silence before Elizabeth opened her mouth to speak but thought better of herself and took the paper from John’s hand.
‘Thank you.’
John sat down on the bed and pulled her down beside him, dragging her bedside table over in front of them he placed the paper down as she watched him and wrote his response.
‘For what?’
‘Rodney told me what you did.’ she smirked as she slipped the paper back across the surface and John grimaced.
‘I didn’t do anything.’
Elizabeth shoved his shoulder with her closed fist and John laughed. ‘Ok, ok, you’re welcome.’
“Thank you, John.” She spoke as close to a normal level as she could, even though she couldn’t hear herself. John looked up into her eyes and Elizabeth smiled gently, not knowing what was going through his head. The fear, the emotion, the over-whelming urge to take her into his arms and prove to himself that she’d woken up, that Carson had worked his magic once again, that she really was right there in front of him.
‘What?’ She held the paper in front of his face and John laughed shaking his head, he mouthed ‘Nothing’.
“You should get some rest, Elizabeth, your ears are going to take a while to get back to normal.” She nodded and he realised that she’d read his lips, either that or she knew what he was going to say before he’d said it.
“What about you?”
He pointed towards the bathroom. “Go get changed, I’ll be here.” She scrunched her nose for a moment, looking between him and the finger he had pointed at the bathroom. He grabbed a handful on her shirt and tugged on it, she blushed slightly before she worked out what he meant.
Hopping up from the bed Elizabeth made her way over to her dresser. John watched her take out her pyjamas, he swallowed deeply when he noticed her pyjamas involved a certain amount of silk and Lace but decided to try and ignore the fact.
Moments later Elizabeth came out dressed in a floor-length red night-gown, raising a hand to her mouth as she yawned. John got up from her bed and pulled the covers back. She smiled at him as she sat down and tucked her feet under the blanket. Lying down with her head finally on the pillow, Elizabeth never took her eyes off him as he stood before her.
“Night Elizabeth.” He said softly, knowing that she couldn’t hear him, though for some reason he just couldn’t say it any louder. Hopefully she’d know what he meant.
He was almost at the door when he felt a delicate hand take his and he realised that perhaps his hearing wasn’t quite up to scratch either; Turning slowly he saw her standing before him, her hand still holding his as she lifted it between them and looked at it closely.
“What is it Elizabeth?”
She didn’t answer. She just kept looking at his hand, holding it tighter than when she’d taken it. She looked up at him for a moment, smiling as she tugged on his hand and led him back over to the bed. Elizabeth sat down again, grabbing the notepad and pen as she moved as far over as she could get on the tiny bed.
‘Stay with me?’
John looked past the paper, down into her eyes and smiled. He took the paper from her and placed it on the nightstand again. Pulling the covers back a little more, he sat down on the bed and slowly removed his boots then stood and took a moment to check her eyes before he stripped down to his boxers and just his shirt.
Elizabeth smiled as she waited for him to lie down then placed her head on his chest and wrapped an arm around his waist.
“Goodnight Elizabeth.” He whispered for the second time that night, but this time she placed a gentle kiss on his chest and snuggled just a little bit closer.
The End.
