Teyla slowly made her way down the stairs and into the control room. She could feel a chill down her spine as she took each step, feel the cold floor beneath her feet where she thought her shoes had been but when she looked down, they were gone.

As she looked around, she noticed that the room, the busiest room in Atlantis was empty. Not a soul was in sight. Teyla looked around the control panels, seeing If there was any sign of someone hidden beneath. There was nothing. She glanced over to Elizabeth’s office only to see it clouded in darkness.

Strange.

Moving along the gangway she started to feel uneasy. There was something odd in the air and the cold on her skin was making her shiver. Her head whipped around when she heard a door open harshly against the silence.

She ran to it.

“Wait!” she called, but the door closed between her and what could have been something.

Teyla swiped her hand across the crystals but the door didn’t open. She knocked on it but no one came. Her head spun around again when she heard the door to Elizabeth’s office open and saw the flickering of the lights in the corner of her eye. She ran towards it, stumbling over a stray chair as she did.

“Who is there?” her voice was soft. She was wary now, because of the dreams the entity had given her. She was fearful of what lay around the corner. Slowly she stepped into the room, noticing that all of Colonel Carter’s belongings were gone and replaced with Elizabeth’s things. She picked up the photo of her friend’s pet and smiled without thought.

“Hi Teyla.”

She looked up suddenly. “Elizabeth!” she said startled, seeing the taller woman looking at her with a serene smile.

“How have you been?” Elizabeth took the small picture frame from her and curled her fingers around Teyla’s trembling hand.

“I’ve been…well…”

“Yeah, me too.” Elizabeth winced sarcastically, tucking her friend’s arm around hers as she pulled her towards the balcony doors. They stood for a moment in silence before the door opened and Elizabeth let her out onto the darkened balcony lit only by the stars. Teyla hadn’t really looked at her friend without surprise until that moment and she realised that she didn’t quite look the way she remembered her.

“You look, different.” She voiced and Elizabeth smiled softly.

“Yeah, I know. Comes with being conjured by your subconcious I suppose.”

Teyla took note of Elizabeth’s long hair, separated into many loose braids amongst tousled curls. Her leather jacket shined against the lights of the city and her smile widened. “I suppose, I saw much of my people in you.” Teyla admitted and Elizabeth just nodded, patting down her cheesecloth blouse. “So, I’m dreaming?”

Elizabeth nodded again, turning to head further down the balcony. “Somewhat…yes.”

“Forgive me if I seem wary, but we’ve had quite an ordeal, how am I to know that you mean well?”

Elizabeth rested her hand to her young friend’s shoulder and looked down into her eyes. Teyla nodded slowly and continued to follow her.

“You’re here, Teyla, because you haven’t said goodbye.”

Teyla looked ahead of them to see the back of a woman in a long white gown. Her hair was a strong contrast to the dress, in thick, long, red waves. “Kate!” she said in surprise and the woman turned around.

Teyla rushed towards her and wrapped her arms around her friend. Teyla’s eyes filled with tears as Kate held her tighter and Elizabeth patted Teyla’s shoulder to get her attention.

“Teyla, we don’t have long, you’re going to wake up soon.”

“But I don’t want to, you…the both of you are the best friends I have ever known. I am alone without you.”

“No you’re not,” Kate smiled, gripping her hand so that the three were bound in a circle. “We’ll always be here Teyla, I’ll always watch over Atlantis.”

“And I’ll always be fighting to find my way home.” Elizabeth dipped her head low, meeting Teyla’s watery eyes.

“What do I do?”

“Treat Rodney carefully, he’s delicate.” Kate grinned.

“And make sure you keep Ronon in line.” Elizabeth made Teyla chuckle with her stern look.

“Be strong for them, Teyla.” Kate lowered her voice.

“And go to John, he doesn’t say it out loud…but he’s missing me.” Teyla and Kate both looked up at their friend’s saddened expression. They’d always known.

“I will.” She nodded.

Slowly Kate started to fade and Teyla could feel her hand slipping away. She watched her slowly disappear before her eyes and felt a warmth come over her that had been stolen from her when the entity deceived them all.

“I will never see her again, will I?” Teyla continued to stare at where Kate had been and Elizabeth nodded.

“No.”

“And you?”

“I’m close.” She said with a secretive smile that stayed until Teyla found herself staring at the ceiling of her quarters. She looked around her room for a moment, following the shadows cast across the floor. She followed a trail of moonlight up to the small picture frame that housed a white dog on her bedside table, beside a photo of three friends, laughing and happy.

She had to be strong, if only for them.

The End.
