[Oh, jesus. Oh, why did she have to run out of cat food today? She was perfectly content to stay at home but Hypnos needed food. So, here is Charlie, trying to hurry through a crowd only to slip on ice and start to fall. God hates her, doesn't he?]

[ Arthur is not a people person but Arthur has an underpinning of not-a-complete-asshole in him too as a general rule. So when he sees someone about to take an unfortunate fall on an icy patch and he happens to be in reasonable distance, he does the natural thing: darts forward to help. This means he has a hand caught at the girl's elbow and one braced at her back. ]

I'd say 'walk don't run' but I can understand the rush today. [ It's a mild humor as he adds, ] You okay?

Jesus. [Charlie is mid-swear when Arthur catches her. She was so tempted to melt the ice all on her own but Arthur was a stranger and therefor her general rule of NO FIRE IN FRONT OF NEW FACES was top priority. Instead, she rights herself and steps away from the ice patch. Completely unaware of the mistletoe growing over her and Arthur's head.]

I'm perfectly alright. Testing gravity. It works just perfectly. We're all relatively safe and won't go floating at random any time soon.

[ Though he does not know it of course, Arthur is fortunate for Charlie holding to her rule since although he's seen enough things - today's compulsions included - to acclimate his sensibilities, Sudden Not Traditional Fire isn't exactly something he'd be able to discount. The comment on gravity makes him laugh for a moment, more a chuckle really as he makes sure she has steady footing again before letting his hand leave her back.

The other at the crook of her elbow stays in a polite curl however and he's just realizing their partition of the sidewalk is barely beneath an awning - the perfect locale for evil to root - when it actually happens. Then there's the truly inexplicable urge to lean in and kiss her.

So he does, mouth angling against hers because the mistletoe isn't offering him any loopholes of cheek-kisses or whatever. That said, at the moment it's fine. The effect is immediate and deep and for the instant, Arthur wants to kiss her even if he honestly does not know why, given his preferences. ]

[This stuff is the worst parasitic plant ever. Uncursed Charlie would think so. Right now, all she's thinking about is kissing this guy she's never spoken to who chuckled at her idiotic joke. Really, Arthur. It was the dumbest comment.

But none of that matters. What matters is Charlie really needs to put her arms around his shoulders and pull him just the slightest bit closer.]

[ He can't help his own personal reference for gravity, which wasn't funny at all at the time but now he has to laugh a little about it - which is decidedly leaps and bounds better than brooding about the experience as a whole, which he does a fair amount too anyway. Conundrum. In any case, Arthur's hand slips to her waist then his arm curls around so that he can splay fingers at the small of her back because it's easier to hold her this way, the hand at her elbow smoothing up to curl at the slope of her shoulder. ]

[No brooding, Arthur. Your face is far too pretty for it. She continues kissing him, one hand finding it's way to play with his hair just slightly. It's kind of become her favorite part of kissing, in all honesty, which is the perfect time for the mistletoe to decide they've had enough. Charlie's eyes open and she pulls away, her face going only slightly red.] This...this curse is getting ridiculous.

[ Fingers winding in his hair actually are...nice, and Arthur having foregone the usual environmentally-offensive amount of hair gel for the day is actually amenable to it to begin with. Still, when she pulls back, Arthur snaps out of it as well just as their noses brush and it seems a charming, endearing kind of act except that the both of them looking sharply in opposite directions ruins the picture. ] Agreed...sorry, uh, [ he slips his hand from her back, the other also and emphatically shoves both hands into his pockets, blinking at her for a second. ] Sorry. [ Again, and he's never apologized so much in his life but today really seems to warrant a lot of them.

He tries for a degree of levity though, head tilting. ] Asking your name now seems awkward, doesn't it?

[ Her voice actually is familiar to him, so he's a bit worried they've already spoken. ]

[God, all the awkward belongs to her right now. She's sure of it. She's chewing a thumbnail slightly, willing the red out of her face and failing horribly. She steps back a bit, clearing her throat and looking at her shoes. She giggles slightly, shaking her head a bit.] Not really. It's Charlie. I think we spoke months back. I might be wrong.

Right. You sound a lot like someone else too... [ He leaves that at that though, politely averting his gaze from her since he can tell she's trying to compose herself. Arthur ends up eying a small cafe instead, watching various people go in and out of the entrance. ] Well, just in case, I'm Arthur. Sorry about the... Charlie. Nice to meet you. [she pauses, tilting her head slightly and looking up at the plant from hell. Again, she's considering setting it on fire.] I think we spoke a few months back. Briefly. Not in person, I don't think. Probably over the device.

Probably. [ He agrees, smiling a little at the considering look she's giving the plant, as if she'd like to eviscerate it or burn it, both sentiments Arthur is familiar with though he tends to reserve the former for people who annoy him - people who are not good at their jobs, specifically but that's a whole other thing. A polite half step brings him fully out of the danger zone of the mistletoe but he's still close enough that if he reached out he could touch Charlie's shoulder without straightening his arm. ] Nice to meet you too. Face to face.

Bad day for errands though.

That's kind of how I roll. Wait till the last possible minute to get things done, do them at the worst possible moment. My cat needed food, though. [She shrugs, rolling her eyes slightly as she also steps out from under the plant. She wasn't really looking to go kissing anyone else at the moment.] I'm sure this'll all be over by midnight, though. I'm hoping.

[ Arthur nods, brow arching at the mention of cat food and then smoothing again in further agreement with the hope of midnight bringing an end to the ridiculousness of mistletoe gone wild. ] According to the pattern, I don't think it should last longer than that, but it's hard to predict.
