Gossip Girl goes 1980's

So the buzz is that the Gossip Girl spin-off will be set in 1980's Los Angeles (actually, the San Fernando Valley) and will feature a young Lily van der Woodsen during her teen years, partying on the Sunset Strip and, eventually, meeting and partying with Rufus.  Interesting....  Hmm, horrible fashion, horrible hair, awesome music (sorry, I love 80's music).  Interesting choice for a spin-off, but is it going to succeed?  Considering Gossip Girl has horrible ratings and it's such an amazing show - if just for Leighton and Blake - then how do they think that this spin-off will succeed??
