Done forever...

So, I haven't updated in a few months, but I really don't care. I finished school last week and then graduation was Saturday. I don't think it still has hit me that high school is done forever. It all seems pretty crazy. I don't really miss it yet, but that could change. The only thing I know i will miss is the easiness of high school. High school really is a joke and I know that college is going to kick my ass. But, I know I will be able to handle it.

Graduation was really hot. I mean...really, really hot. it was outside and about 90 degrees and sunny. I was salutatorian, so I had to make a speech. That was not too fun, especially since I had to face directly into the sun. I got some sweet bling-bling, though. I got a big gold medallion so that was cool. I think that I did pretty well in it, though. Most people seemed to like it. So, I have decided to post it here for all to see. This is exactly how it was heard since I added things while I was reading it. (The stuff in parenthesis are my little comical add-ins and stuff I added at the last second, some even while I was making the speech.)

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, faculty, staff, graduates of the Class of 2005, families and friends.

Wow, 12 years. It’s taken us 12 years to get to this point, but we have finally made it. 12 years of books, homework, classes, hard work and studying (well for some of us) but we have reached the end. However, this is really not the end but rather a beginning.

My fellow classmates, we have succeeded. Those of us who have made it here today have passed an immensely crucial milestone in our lives. It is from this point on that our lives are entirely up to us. We have the power to become whatever we want, and to do anything we want. Remember that every day, every hour, and every second which passes is what you make of it.

Although graduation marks the end of our high school era, it also begins a new chapter in our lives. For many, the road getting here was smooth. For others, the road was rough and eventful. But today, we leave all of those rough times behind us. We set a goal, and now we have achieved that goal. In a few minutes, we will be finished with high school forever and we will all be out on our own doing as we wish. Whether we plan to go to college, get a job, enlist in the military, or anything else, everything we have experienced these past four years has educated us and helped us better prepare for the future.

I’m sure that we are all excited about finally leaving Middie High (I know I am), however, the past four years have forever impacted us and has helped shape us into who we are as individuals and as a class. Every teacher, classmate, friend, faculty member and even that strange freshman who sat next to you in study hall has had an impact on you and has influenced you as to what you want to be and where you will go in life. Whether you wish to be more like them or not, every student and faculty member in this building has played a part in molding us into the unique individuals that we are.

Over the past four years, I have often questioned if what we are learning in class will ever help us in “the real world.” I have come to realize that although knowing the cosine of 270 may seem meaningless, everything we have learned in all of our classes has and will continue to help us. Education is the most important tool that anyone can possess and everything you learn will make you a better and more well-rounded person. Whether its responsibility lectures by Mr. Dawson(Oh, by the way Dawson, have you learned how to hit a golf ball yet), grammar lessons by Ms. Bibbee, or the teaching of foiling of binomials by Mr. Difranco, these will all help us succeed in life.

Finally, I would like to leave you with a pair of quotes from two figures I’m sure most of you have heard of. The first is from the great comedian Jerry Seinfeld. He said “It's amazing that the amount of news that happens in the world every day always just exactly fits the newspaper.” I want to encourage all graduates to go out and make your own news. You all have the ability to succeed in life and you possess the skills to make the headlines (in a good way). My second quote will help those who have high aspirations but are unsure of their ability. I, along with many others that I know, am hoping to do great things later in my life but I was not sure if I would be able to. However, I now know that we all have the ability to succeed in anything that we do. As the wise and inspirational Jedi Master Yoda once said “Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.”

Thank you, and congratulations Class of 2005. (May the force be with us.)

The reason I put that comment about Dawson hitting a golf ball is because of what he did at our Awards Ceremony. For those of you who don't know Dawson, he can be the biggest ass ever. Other times, he can be cool and funny. At our awards ceremony, he did the senior toast. He is retiring this year and most of the teachers and all of the principals hate him. In his speech, he tore into about everyone and offended so many people. Our principal looked like she was going to kill him, it was really funny. He said that I cannot play tennis so in my speech I had to get him back so I threw that in there. By the way, he is really bad at golf so it is appropriate.
