So I was talking to Andrew (
fancompany ) today about heat sinks for computers, and I suggested using a Peltier element to replace his fan.
For anyone who doesn't know about Peltier elements, they are small pieces with ceramic with two wires that go into them. When powered, one side gets very cold and one side gets very hot. The cold side is put near the processor as the heat sink. However, the hot side gets so hot that it ironically needs its own heat sink, usually a fan. Peltier elements are used in high-end computers that use large processors, usually for gaming computers.
Anyways, Andrew found
this site regarding use of Peltier elements in somewhat unorthodox conditions. If I knew anything about computers and wiring, I would do this in a heartbeat.
