orientation is very much like summer camp.
there is a reason i never went to summer camp.  i hate meaningless social encounters and having every moment scheduled and busy.
people are nice, but i really suck at the shallow friendship thing, so i'm not particularly loving it yet.  i miss home, and the people i love and who love me.  it's hot and humid here, and i am not enjoying the stickiness, but it could be much worse.
i am excited for classes; we pre-register tomorrow and hopefully i'll get into all the classes i want (although since i'm wanting the jane austen seminar, which only has 12 students, it is very likely i will have to take an alternate class).  i think life will get better once i have classes and it becomes more like college and less like camp.
i have to remember to drink enough and not overwork myself; i got adrenal-ill on tuesday and luckily people were understanding but still it sucks to not be healthy enough to do everything i want to.
my roommate is very nice; we have really a lot in common.  she's more social than i am, but that is probably going to be a good thing for me (i can bum off the people she meets).  we both need our sleep (me more than her, of course, but still), and we have similar temperaments--we both feel things pretty intensely and care about our academics more than partying all the time.  i suppose that could be said of all swatties, though.
all in all, it's not great, but i think it WILL be great soon.  i'm homesick but that's normal, and the good thing is that the food is much better than i thought it would be...but with all the walking there is very little chance i will gain weight.  i'm taking the aquatics class too because i didn't take the swim test 'cause i wasn't feeling well, but that's chill, 'cause i like water and it's only until fall break (PE classes are half a semester!  yay!).
i will update sometime as to what classes i am taking but it is late and i want to print off some pictures for my wall, so i will be going now.
yay for supportive people from home!
