I posted Chapter Two of the Willow/Willow fic ‘Playing With Herself’ earlier today; in case anyone who’s interested missed it, because of the odd posting time, it’s
HERE.

1) Why do you write fanfic?
Because it’s an outlet for my creative impulses that is a lot less work, and can be fitted into irregular hours much more easily, than planning and running Role-Playing Games.
2) When did you write your first fanfic and which fandom was it for?
I made numerous attempts to write fanfic as a child and as a teenager - I remember, for instance, trying to write a sequel to ‘The Lord of the Rings’ when I was about 19, set in a post-industrial Middle Earth - but my first proper fanfic, posted where others could see it, was in 2001 and it was for the ‘Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn’ fandom. I’ve recycled elements of that story, years later, in ‘Tabula Avatar’.
3) Which fandoms do you, or have you, written for?
BG2: SOA, BtVS, AtS, Planescape: Torment, NWN2: Storm of Zehir, Conan, The Saga of Noggin the Nog, Thomas the Tank Engine, The Wombles, Fanny Hill, Primeval, Sex and the City, Leon the Professional, Discworld, Ringworld, The Bible, Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Miss Marple, Godzilla, Futurama, Xena Warrior Princess, Lord of the Rings, The Incredible Hulk, Tomb Raider, Small Soldiers, Rupert Bear, The Jungle Book, Winnie the Pooh, Father Ted... almost anything, in fact.
4) Do you read much fanfic or do you mainly write?
I both read and write a lot of fanfic. I don’t know if I read more or write more; I keep a word count of my writing but not of my reading. Probably read more.
5) What comes easiest for you when writing?
Fight scenes come easiest, then humour.
6) Which genres do you mainly write? (action, angst, dark, drama, horror, humour...)
By number of stories I write more humour than anything else; by number of words it’s action.
7) Which genres will you not write?
None, although I rarely do Horror. I’d never write BtVS All-Human AU as anything but Crack!Fic (‘Savage Beauty’, ‘Dojo Hard’); taking it seriously is impossible for me.
8) Are reader comments/responses important?
To some extent. I like to be advised of any errors, especially British-isms from American characters. Often I’ll rewrite things if comments imply that something isn’t working but sometimes, if there is some factor unknown to the readers that will be revealed later to paint the part in question in a different light, I won’t.
9) Do you use a beta reader?
Not really. Sometimes I get the Wombat to read through things, especially to check if things make sense to a reader who might not know as much about the background as me, but if I’ve thoroughly checked a piece myself I don’t bother with getting it beta-ed for grammar etc. Although for the sequel to ‘Welcome To The Jungle’, to be titled ‘Agatean Democracy’, I plan to use 14 betas, take 13 years writing it, and not post it until Dr Pepper offers to give a free bottle of Dr Pepper to everyone on my F-list if ‘Agatean Democracy’ comes out during 2022 (a joke which will mean nothing to those who don’t know the history of Guns ‘N Roses).
10) Which is your favourite character to write fanfic for and why?
Olaf the Troll. Because he’s a troll and he likes merry sport.
11) Which are your favourite ’ships (including friendships) that you write the most?
Spike & Willow friendship, Viconia & Jaheira friendship. I’m not really a shipper in the romantic sense; I like there to be a romance going on in my stories but I’m not that bothered who it’s between. Spike/Buffy is probably the romantic ’ship that I’ve written most but I don’t write it all that often these days. I’m a massive Gimli/Galadriel shipper, that’s my oldest OTP, but I’ve only written it once.
12) Do you have characters that are so strongly established that they're in your heads?
Yes. More OCs than canon characters, usually, although sometimes Illyria takes over. Grovel before your ruler, miserable worms.
13) Which characters are you most comfortable doing a POV for? Which is the hardest?
Most comfortable Giles, Spike, Willow, Olaf, Viconia, Minsc, Winnie the Pooh. Hardest Andrew (because I hate the little weasel) and Wesley (because he’s English but written and played by Americans; sometimes his dialogue jars on me horribly and correcting it without losing his ‘voice’ is tricky). I used to find Xander hard but since I did ‘Lonely on the Mountain’ in Xander first person POV, and it was so well received, I’m more confident with him.
