And travelers now within that valley
Through red-litten windows see
Vast forms that move fantastically
To a discordant melody,
While, like a rapid ghastly river
Through the pale door
A hideous throng rush out forever
And laugh, but smile no more.
from "The Haunted Palace" Edgar Allen Poe
I'm having one of those weeks where it seems like the hurrieder I go, the furthers behinds I gets. I don't know why, it's just a vague sense of lag. Internet lag, life lag, I'm not really sure which, but it's there, dragging me down. No I'm not depressed, more like, introspective.
I was sick yesterday. My daughter's daycare owner told me that 2 teachers went home with vomiting and such, and ... yeah it wasn't a good time. I'm glad to feel better. Isn't strange how, when you feel really sick, things that are perfectly ordinary just taste delicious in a way you can't explain? Sprite and wheat crackers? Think of how when you've got a terrible cold, that bowl of chicken noodle soup is ambrosia.
It's been insane at work, we've gotten 5 major shipments in the past 6 weeks and have been packing and shipping for the holiday season. I'll be glad when Christmas and New years roll around, because I get off work 3 out of the 5 days both weeks.
Thanksgiving went pretty well, spent the whole day with the in-laws and family. I made fudge. I have a most excellent fudge recipe, if anyone wants it. No candy thermometer or temperature gauge, or even 'hard ball/soft ball' type cooking to speak of. It does, however, take 24 large marshmallows. No idea why it takes 24,and not 23 or 25. It just does. Anyway, Turkey Day was pretty quiet and peaceful. Black Friday we braved going to Walmart (at 6am, not at 5 when they opened) and bought a Blue Ray player and two movies, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull (it was ok) and Hancock, which I really enjoyed. I don't know, I'm pretty sure there isnt a Will Smith movie that's come out in the past 10 years that I haven't enjoyed.
I'm going to see the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still" on Friday. Gort lives! And The Dark Knight comes out on Tuesday! What a great movie. Shame there's so many bad bad BAD fanfictions out there relating to it.
