Well last night was the visitation for my husband's grandma, and it was surprisingly pleasant. As I said in another post, things had gotten almost nasty regarding life support and such during those last few days while she was in the hospital, but thank goodness, none of that emnity was showing either at the visitation last night, or at the funeral this morning.
As the pastor said this morning, Hazel P had lived a good long life of 83 years and had seen a lot of changes in her time since being born in 1925 and that's all true. It wasn't like she was suddenly taken from us, or was a 25 year old or something like that.
I had no idea she was one of the founding/charter members of Lakeview Baptist church. I thought that was pretty interesting.
The family was all there, and overall it was a very pleasant atmosphere. I think our daughter had a good time making the rounds visiting family, and was fascinated by the open casket. It was like she couldnt' quite believe there was someone dead there or something. At one point, my husband's uncle was up there viewing the body with her, and Caitlin said, "She looks really nice." And Uncle Ronald said something about how she was sleeping. Caitlin looks up at him and is like.. "She's not sleeping, she's dead." That's my girl. She's clearly got my skills in tact, or lack thereof.
Anyway I'm glad it was as stressfree as it was, though it was still exhausting, and it was nice seeing all the family and friends (some of whom I hadn't seen in a few years).
As for me, I'm already working on the next chapter of my story. I'm a busy little bee, aren't I? Waiting for a certain hefty member of the leporidae family to get in touch with me....
