The stars were beautiful, even if they weren't in the same positions he was used to. He was slowly getting to know them again. Frey was laying on his back on top of his sleeping bag as well; it was warm enough that it almost reminded him of Falena.
Frey looked over at Shoon when the other man moved, impressed by his ability to crack his back so easily. He offered the blonde a shy smile and a nod. "It's almost like home." It was dark enough he couldn't see his friend flush, nor would he have understood why if he had.
"Oh... I promised mother I would be home by my birthday." It was his turn to blush. "August 27th..."
Shoon frowned at the mention of home, but didn't say anything. Falena wasn't his home anymore, not really, Budehuc felt more like home than Falena ever did
( ... )
Frey nodded toward his friend, definitely shy. His birthday had only ever been celebrated by those closest to him. "Oh good..." He replied with a smile.
"Eighteen..." The past year was a blur, it was strange to think he'd be a whole year older than he had been. Part of him wondered what he'd be doing if he was home right now, but the thought was pointless. "Oh agreed... it's still strange to think that Lym is older than I am right now." He'd probably never told Shoon how old he was.
"Eighteen, huh?" Shoon gave him a smile, "Means you're almost a grown-up." He looked back up at the sky.
"I try not think about that, really. It makes my head hurt. I keep trying to imagine my self at fifty, which is about the age I should be, but I can't imagine it at all." He smiled, "Can you imagine me at fifty?"
"Almost." He agreed, smiling. That was such a strange thought, since he felt like he already was. His mother would probably not agree with that though. A small part of him that he tried not to listen to often was hoping that his father would turn up here as well, and Lym... even if she was all grown up.
"It makes mine strange as well." Frey peered at Shoon... trying hard to imagine him older, using Subala as a base. It resulted in a laugh. "No. Can you see me that old?"
"Hmmm," Shoon looked over at Frey, eyes narrowed in concentration. "Not really. But really, not much would be different for you. 'Cept maybe for some wrinkles." He gave a teasing smile, "You're hair's already silver, so you don't have to worry 'bout goin' gray."
Frey couldn't help laughing. He'd felt a little lighter, somehow, since he had left the castle... but there were still feelings that made him not want to return at all.
Shoon laughed as well, "I like to think I'd be as tall as Zegai. And as well built. Though I don't think I'll end up that tall. But I did gain some inches this summer." He grinned, proud of the two inches he'd gained since winter. "I'm hoping I'll gain some more by the time we get home."
"You never know." He was optimistic about things like that... he wanted to be as tall as his father one day. "I thought something had changed." Frey gave him one of his beaming smiles, then nodded a bit enthusiastically. "Maybe we both will!"
"Well, at least you don't have that problem," Shoon said. "I have a lot of catching up to do." He paused, looked over at Frey. "Your father, his Commandership, he was really tall..." he wanted to add 'and had lots of muscles' but that sounded weird even in his head. "Do you think you'll look like him when you're all done growing and stuff?" He couldn't really imagine Frey having the same build as his father. Frey was so slender during the Sun Rune war, and maybe he was getting some muscle now (not that Shoon noticed... much).
"Yeah..." For the first time in, well... maybe ever... Frey studied Shoon. He could see why the other man was a bit worried about his height, though it meant people in battle probably underestimated him.
"Me? I don't know... I took more after mother." He made a little face at that, mostly because he'd been mistaken for a girl before because of it. "They're both pretty tall, though..."
Shoon smiled softly, picking up on Frey's distaste of being mistaken for a girl. Any guy would be upset about that.
"Yeah, they are," he agreed. Shoon closed his eyes and remembered fighting against Arshtat while she had been possessed by the Sun Rune. She had been incredibility intimidating.
He looked back over at Frey, "You know," he began, "I don't think you look girly."

"I hope so, I don't want to be shorter than Faylen my entire life."
