It's Anime Expo's Fault... No, It's Not

It's all Anime Expo's (AX) fault... No, it's not.  I can't blame AX since gaining interest in any fictional series and becoming a fan is actually my decision.

When I first heard and saw many people writing about the anime and manga series, Hetalia, in the spring of 2009, I was a little curious, and searched online to see what it was about.  Though my curiosity grew with the controversies regarding South Korea, I still didn't care for it.  Besides, due to time constraints, I had decided not to pick up more interests and obsessions.  I also do not enjoy things just because they are popular.

At AX 2009, I saw products and cosplayers for Hetalia, and after hearing some people talk about it, I downloaded and began watching the anime episodes of Hetalia Axis Powers.  The anime was funny with cute characters, but I found it confusing and hard to get into.  It also didn't make me interested in history as it did to many people, and due to the confusion and being busy, I quit watching at Episode 30.

The Hetalia History panel at AX 2011 confused me further, but history is usually confusing to me.  After taking pictures of Hetalia cosplayers, hearing fans discuss the series, and seeing products on it, I started watching the anime from the beginning again.  Viewing the episodes a second time helped clear things up, and I also kept using the internet to help me understand and remember characters and plots.  From all that, I realized that I had interpreted many things wrong.

In a little over a week, I had downloaded and watched all the Hetalia episodes as well as the movie, Paint It, White, and even began reading Hetalia fanfiction.  Furthermore, I downloaded music from the series, made an LJ icon (mostly for the hetalia community), and plan to read the webcomic.

I just can't believe it! I never expected to get into another series, especially one based on history.  Even worse, I picked up another obsession and addiction despite time constraints.  Both times I started watching Hetalia was right after learning more about it at AX.  That's why I said it was the fault of AX, but I'm actually the one at fault.  I know this is bad, but I'm just too irresponsible to hold myself back and prevent it on happening.  Despite enjoying the series, I'm still not interested in history though I've looked up some historical topics.
