wrestling stuff...

I'm not sure why I haven't posted about this as it happened a few weeks ago, but I haven't had the time. As many of you know I've been a fan of professional wrestling for a long time, and whenever something bad happens that turns it into a media frenzy, it's always a double edged sword. On one hand, it puts it in the spotlight, that these guys bust their asses and the rest of their bodies, with no pensions or even health insurance in place solely for our entertainment. At some point there is bound to be someone that just messes up, and it has been happening a lot lately. A while back Eddie Guerrero died, Mike Awesome committed suicide, and a few others like Lex Luger have hit rock bottom. It was still pretty hard to take in what exactly Chris Benoit did.

I was at work the Monday that the news got announced, when I got a phone call from by buddy Mike. Mike doesn't usually call me at work, so I figured something was up. I called him back and found out the news that Benoit had died, then the kicker, his family did too. I found it totally unlikely that he had died of something like carbon monoxide or a serial killer and feared the worst. sure enough, I step in the door to my house and see the news of a double murder/ suicide.

In one hand, my friends and I were torn because you can't really talk about how great someone's career was when they ended up killing their family because they snapped. The other hand was that Benoit was one of our favorite wrestlers and we were sad to see him go. It's the same as if anyone's'es favorite actor dies in a sudden way, you feel bad even though you may not know them personally.

Now I notice the insane amount of media coverage the whole thing has been getting, and it makes me kind of sick. Rather than realize that Benoit was kind of nuts, they are blaming pro wrestling for the killing. They keep getting old washed up wrestlers like Marc Mero that haven't wrestled consistently since 1995 saying that all wrestlers do is take roids, and cocaine etc. Then you start to realize that thats why this washed up has been has been fired because HE took roids, and HE was a coke-head. That doesn't mean the business as a whole does it.

Bill O'Reilly recently used the whole thing to show a bunch of seven year old interviews he did about backyard wrestling, and how it damages kids, way to be an opportunist jackass.

I don't like the WWE, or how they make people beef up with HGH to unrealistic sizes, but I wouldn't blame them for a pre-meditated murder from someone that needed mental help. apparently Benoit had a "Doctor feel good" that was prescribing him 10 months of roids without the proper certification every month. That asshat is going to face federal trafficking charges thankfully, because he pretty much was the one that killed Benoit.

On a lighter note on the same subject, Mike and I went to a WLW show on May 12th and it was really good. WLW is the federation that Harley race runs in Missouri, and we got to meet a few of the stars including TNA wrestling's Abyss and Harley Race himself.

some photos:

we got to meet Chris "Abyss" Parks, which was very cool, he's on tall dude also, keep in mind that I'm 6'2" tall.

And here is Harley Race, he doesn't seem to get around as well as he used to, but it was cool to meet him.

The best thing about WLW is that the kids are ruthless as hell to the heel (badguy) wrestlers. small 7 year old kids were yelling "you stink!" and starting funny chants like "sissy boy!, sissy boy!" It really cracked us up because we're used to guys like lucha redneck.
