Greetings Friends,

This is my first journal entry in the journal entitled The Journal of a Warrior. I choose to call it that because in the National Guard, we are referred to as warriors.

My journey into the military began on May 24, 2005 when I stepped out of the van at the reception center at Fort Benning GA. It was then that I began to think to myself: What the hell am I doing here? At age 31 I was older than most of the other recruits so I had to do more and try harder than all the others. Also being considerably overweight didn't help either. The first few weeks of boot camp were the toughest. I was constantly made fun of over my weight and my lack of physical conditioning. But all that changed. When I first arrived, I weighed 245 pounds and could barely run a mile. By week 14 when I graduated, I was running 4 miles, doing 70 pushups in 2 minutes and scoring 230 out of 300 on the Army Physical Test. I also managed to qualify as an expert in my Military Occupational Speciality which is Infantry/Mortars. More later........
