Please Help, If You Can!

Hi There!

When I was 4 years old, I met a boy named Richie Gusera on the first day of Kindergarten.  We became fast friends and always got into trouble for talking in class.  When we were in 1st grade, he was diagnosed with leukemia.  He was absent a lot when we were in 2nd grade, but whenever he was well enough to attend school, there he was.  I can still see him sitting in the front row with his baseball cap on, covering not only a lump on his head, but the hair loss he suffered as a result of his treatments.  But through it all, he always had a big smile on his face.

Richie was too sick to start 3rd grade with us, and shortly after the start of the school year he passed away.  I missed him greatly and over the years as we reached various milestones (8th grade graduation, getting our high school class rings, attending our senior prom, high school graduation) I often wondered what it would be like if my friend Richie were still there with us.  I've always felt we would have remained friends for life, and would have enjoyed calling each other from college to share stories of all the exciting things we were doing.  28 years later, I still miss him.

I started running about a year ago as a way to get healthier.  I quickly fell in love with it and on Labor Day Weekend I completed a half marathon.  It was one of the proudest accomplishments of my life, and it made me want to run more races.  In an effort to meet other runners, and do some good, I signed up as a Team In Training Volunteer and I'm currently training for the National Marathon on March 29, 2008.

On the day I signed up with TNT, a friend told me about a friend of hers who was recently diagnosed with leukemia and is currently in the ICU receiving treatment.

I am raising money for this very important cause and I'm asking you to help by making a contribution!  Please use the link in this email to donate online quickly & securely.  Even $5 will make a difference and help me meet my goal of $1500.  You will receive email confirmation of your tax-deductible donation and I will be notified as soon as you make your donation.
