so i found my mom's collection of janis joplin cd's and decided i would give them a listen...i have decided that she is one of my new heroes. it just blows me away how much of herself she puts into each of her songs. there is so much emotion and so much...ah. i don't even know how to word it. it's just incredible. if you don't like her voice, you have to agree that she is very passionate when she sings. and i can't think of any mainstream artists that sing with as much intensity as she did...music was so much more meaningful back then...(i'm speaking strictly mainstream here, by the way) it just meant so much more. it wasn't just a contest to see who could sex up their song the most. their songs actually meant something to them. it sucks that we have to grow up in such a fake, over glamourized time. i mean, honestly, someone will not make it in showbusiness if they are not attractive. but look at most of the bands from the sixties and seventies...can't say many of them were gorgeous. janis joplin wasn't exactly what you would call gorgeous, but man could she sing. and that's what mattered. not some stupid image. it was all about the music. *sigh* it's a shame what's happened to society...
