<3, Day 10
Chuck is a good and kind and decent man.
It seems simple, I know. But it is the highest honor I know to give a person, and I love him so much because I see this simple fact of him every day I am with him.
I will give the story of the words, though I wish I knew how to express their significance.
When I was but a spawn, spending a few hours of the week with my mom and stepdads, we watched a smattering of Babylon 5. Only a couple of episodes, really. Frankly it seemed like a boring and disjointed sort of show to me then.
However, I remember one thing from one episode we happened to watch: there was an old woman, speaking about her beloved. He was, it seemed, a very important man to the world and beyond. He did lots of stuff and made many decisions, good and bad. But what mattered...what REALLY mattered to the old woman who knew him best and loved him so much, was that he was a good, kind and decent man. There was nothing more to say-- nothing more pure to love, than a man of kindness, decency and goodness.
I watched the series in full later, and I think of it now as one of the best written Sci-Fi series ever. For a bunch of date nights, Chuck and I watched through most of the series but we stopped after the Shadow War arc. He's never seen the episode which is the original source of this compliment, stuck in my brain when I was so young.
Everyone will do many acts in their lives, great and small, good and evil, stupid and smart. It matters except that Chuck is a good man. A kind man who cares about the world. He is a man of a strong, quiet faith who does his best to emulate Jesus Christ as he knows how. It is so hard to care. He is a people, and people make so many mistakes.
I treasure his heart. I have every intention of spending the rest of my life with him.
