Their eyes met across the Great Hall that morning at breakfast. The night before, she had said that tomorrow was the day. Now, that could be a seemingly inconsequential statement to normal people, but when spoken by Hermione Granger to her boyfriend Draco Malfoy, it was a big deal. He knew he couldn't hold her gaze for long; people would notice and they just were not ready for that yet. They were Head Boy and Girl, but the house rivalries were still strong, especially between Gryffindor and Slytherin, even though Draco and his family had repented after Voldemort fell. Hermione had given him a chance at the beginning of the year, took the chance getting to know him when the others shied away from the sullen blonde. They had returned for their seventh year, and Hermione was the only one really willing to give him a clean slate. Naturally, a friendship formed. By Christmas, they both realised it was more than friendship, but they knew they could not go public, at least not right away.

And now, today was the day. The night before, curled up in front of the fire in the Head's Common Room, Hermione had told him that today was the day. She wanted everyone to know, and she wanted to drive away the stigmas. If anyone could, it would be the headstrong and stubborn Gryffindor Princess and Slytherin Prince. If anyone had a chance at getting rid of the house rivalries, it was them. Today was the day. She had told him not to worry about it, that she knew how she would make sure everyone knew about them, and he trusted her. Over the months, it had become clear that a bit of Slytherin had rubbed off on the only female member of the Golden Trio, and it certainly was not a bad thing. It would have been much more difficult to keep their secret as long as they had if not.

Draco flashed her a quick smile as he headed out of the Great Hall to go down to the Quidditch pitch. Today Slytherin was facing Ravenclaw. It wouldn't be a difficult match, and the weather was beautiful. On a day like today, the entire school would be at the match. Slytherins cheering on the Slytherins, and everyone else cheering on Ravenclaw.

An hour or so later, as Draco came out of the locker room with the team, he looked up in the stands to see he had been right. Everyone was here and the noise was insane. He tried to look for Hermione, and only just managed to catch a glimpse of her sitting next to the Weaslette up in the Gryffindor stands. He was still unsure of her plans, but for now, he had a game to focus on.

The game went back and forth longer than Draco would have liked, with Ravenclaw scoring here and there, and Slytherin pulling more than a few fouls. In the end though, pulling up from a sharp dive near the Hufflepuff stands, Draco caught the Snitch. Slytherin won, 390 to 150. Landing on the pitch, he knew what would happen right before it did. There was Hermione, walking across the field, Weaslette, Scarhead and Weasel following close behind. Other students were starting to pour onto the field to console the Ravenclaws. But not Hermione. She met his questioning gaze with a smirk, and waved her wand. In seconds, her Gryffindor scarf shook slightly, flickering into silver and green, and the rest of her attire soon followed suit. As she got closer, he noticed she was wearing the emerald necklace he had bought her for Christmas as well. Her friends gasped seeing her walking boldly toward Malfoy, now wearing Slytherin green.

Without a moment's hesitation, she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him soundly. After the shock wore off, Draco returned the kiss happily, linking his arms around her waist, picking her up and spinning her around. Students were screaming around them, but the happy pair didn't hear any of it. Pulling apart for just a moment, Hermione smirked at him, knowing her plan had been successful. Somehow, they managed to take off in a run and make it back to the castle before everyone could start questioning them. They knew it was inevitable, but for now they just wanted to enjoy the last bit of peace they knew they would have.

The next morning at breakfast, the gossip mills had begun, likely thanks to Pansy and Lavender. Pansy was screeching about Draco betraying her, and the Gryffindors, well mostly Ron, bellowed about Draco having Hermione under some sort of spell. The happy couple walked into the Great Hall, holding hands with determined looks on their faces, and all sound stopped. Apparently everyone thought that the Quidditch incident, as it was being called, was some sort of mass hallucination...but this proved that it wasn't. After a moment of stunned silence, the room broke into gossiping chaos once more. The pair sighed, squeezing each others hands in reassurance as they broke apart to do damage control among their individual houses. The Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws didn't seem too fazed, but rather seemed to be waiting to hear official word from Gryffindor and Slytherin about the status of their Head Boy and Girl's relationship.

On one end of the hall, Draco stood at the head of the Slytherin table. At the other end, Hermione took her place at the head of the Gryffindor table. Questions and accusations began flying at both of them, but each handled them with ease. Draco managed to quiet Pansy, though it resulted in her stomping out the hall sulking and swearing she would owl Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. Hermione ended up screaming at Ron, until Harry finally stepped in and forcibly sat his friend down. It took Ginny threatening to owl Molly to calm him, but he begrudgingly accepted the situation. Grabbing some toast off the table, Hermione caught Draco's eye and nodded toward the door. A look of relief washed over his features and he grabbed an apple from a platter in front of Blaise, who was happily collecting gold from a number of students. Clearly the so-called Quidditch Incident had sparked a bet or two. As the two departed the Hall, arm in arm, the talk broke out again, this time, abuzz with the news of the the most shocking couple to set foot in Hogwarts in as long as they could remember.

Yes, Hermione's plan had worked perfectly.
