San Diego

So I'm back from San Diego and had a fabulous time!  It was seriously the best work week I've ever had--they paid me to sit in a HOT TUB, w00t!  (Of course in addition to all the neat stuff I learned over the week, haha).

In any case, here are some highlighted events from the trip since Liz and I went down there on Sat morning even though my business training didn't start till the following Monday.

Stayed at Hostel Cat and took a trip with them down to Tijuana, Mexico for $17 (without my passport)--hung out with a lot of Irish folks, two Englishmen, and an Aussie.  It basically all amounted to a whole lotta people drinking up some tequila and Coronas, though I just stuck to a few margaritas and one shot of tequila.  I figured it wouldn't be wise to be intoxicated and not have the proper documents to get back in the country, lol.  They took us around to a few clubs, one of which where I rode my first mechanical bull and stayed on for like a minute.  Liz sadly only lasted about 10 seconds before she landed on her head, which was rather amusing.  At the wee hours of the morning, we returned to the tram to head back to the States and I had to lie to border patrol about losing my passport--oops.  Well hey, at least I'm back here!  We got back to the hostel at about 3am...it was a really fun time out with everyone, and thankfully no one was obnoxiously drunk or anything---they just hold their liquor well!  O_o

At 8:30am we get up and head off to the San Diego zoo where I proceed to become lobsterized for failure to apply sun screen all over my arms.  But, I got to see some hippos and a polar bear, so all was good in the end.  That evening Liz dragged me out kayaking for the first time ever, so we headed out to La Jolla to have that experience---beautiful scenery all around!  The amusing part of this experience, though, was Liz becoming sea-sick 20 minutes into kayaking since we had to wait that long for these other guys to actually stay in their boat.  So as soon as the guide finally met up with us, she was puking EVERYWHERE!  We nearly went back, but opted to stay the course... so she was fine whenever we were rowing, but as soon as we stopped there went lunch again.   So at the end of that day I was lobsterized and WAY sore from the kayaking, and poor Liz was all that and just plain empty inside.

Monday started a fun week of learning about various HUD regulations, and let me tell ya... stuff at work actually makes sense now!  Durrr....it was just nice to find out WHY we had to make all these sudden changes 2 years ago and how it's shaped us into what we are today.

That evening we went back to La Jolla and hit up this fancy Italian restaurant which was super yummy.  They have these desserts called Manhattans which are apple rings dipped in batter and fried and then topped with caramel and vanilla icecream.  TO DIE FOR...m mm.

We also went out to Sunset Cliffs on Tuesday evening to look around and take pictures.  We watched a bunch of surfers out in the water for awhile and then walked around the area.  Then that evening Liz took leave and headed back to Virginia.

And now, I'm back in Reno with hubby who I greatly missed all week long :)  The end.
