The Best Thing About Mornings

Dec 14, 2008 21:29

The best thing about mornings is if I'm still laughing, I'm still drunk.

Everything makes me laugh at the dawning of another sobriety-less day, even the rancid taste of drinks long ago consumed still lingering on my tongue.

That taste is exactly why it is a poor decision to take someone home-the awkward (ugh) morning after kiss is reason enough to either refuse to hand out a number or be refused. Then there's the thought of the night before and the realization that money and time was wasted on someone who would eventually have that rancid taste all thanks to my own self.
No, it is sometimes just better to find the alcohol myself and let Jesus down when I miss Church, despite the fact that I still look nice enough to attend when I walk past his many Houses during my pseudo walk of shame (it's never a real walk of shame but it looks like one) back to my car. Back to my car where I laugh the alcohol back up. Back to my car where even the morning dew looks good enough to drink the dehydration away. Back to my car where I left my purse full of the wonders of disguisitory clothing that will keep those Church goers from knowing exactly how much money I spent on alcohol. Maybe I could have even looked the part of an early-rising and determinate student who will miss Church just this one time to study for that incredibly hard test that must be important for her major.

I laugh at their lies to themselves as they walk in through the doors of the house of the Crucified. I laugh at their religious habits every Sunday as they religiously attend Religion. There is more Grace for those who go, more fever in their souls for those who know they are the ones who are always there for Jesus, the ones that say no to alcohol because they are the ones that really care about Jesus. Oh yes, oh yes, Hallelujah, they're the ones that know what makes Him sad, happy, angry or just plain content. And they are the ones that will be best friends forever in his great and glorious house come Judgement Day. They know what's going on. And good for them too because there's gotta be somebody for Jesus when he tells them all his little secrets how to make water into wine or how to raise the dead.

But you know what?

I got that morning after kiss from Jesus.
