She heard the door creek open. She quickly bushed her hand wildly through the right side of her hair, making it messier. She swayed back and forth eerily, blankly staring at the corner of the cell. She waited for her cue from Zuko, to continue her playing her role of insane little sister.

“I brought you some fire flakes,” Zuko said as he held out a bag of treats.

Azula stumbled up to the gate of her cell where Zuko stood. A smirk slowly formed on her face - it was the sinister smile that used to make Zuko cringed from fear. It was no longer frightening. Nothing about her was anymore.

“Zuzu, it’s been so long since you last visited me,” cooed Azula as he put a handful of fire flakes out for her to eat.

“Indeed, it has,” Zuko looking away. He was still uncomfortable with what she had become.

Azula restrained herself to keep from laughing. Her brother was the worse liar in the world - who was he trying to fool?  Not her, perhaps himself? He seemed to have become obsessed with visiting her regularly. But he didn’t want to acknowledge it.

When she was first placed in the asylum, which was politely called a mental health facility, he hardly visited her. He acted as if it were a chore.

She was bored - all she was allowed to do was sit there and think.  They didn’t deem her stable enough to do anything else. It was terrible. So crafting new words to describe situations became her new game, as world domination was off the table for the time being anyway. She had to have something to do, some goal to have or she’d go crazy.

Zuko overheard her muttering nonsense. In truth it was a word she had created for her new vocabulary. Azula believed that it was good if the new word didn’t sound as devious and demeaning as its definition.

The young Fire Lord once asked her what the word he was unfamiliar with meant. She let out a cackle before answering him. The definition she gave was a pure evil description of her feelings towards their father. Zuko had been shocked by her new word. He had also been slightly amused, but he couldn’t let anyone know that.

The unstable princess knew that her new vocabulary interested her brother. It was obvious; he had begun to visit her more after he first discovered it. He started coming at least once a week, then it became several times a week. Now he’d appear daily, except on the days he was visiting their Uncle Iroh.

Azula looked at her brother. This was one few things that she never thought was possible - having a strong influence over him from an asylum especially after he became Fire Lord. Her plan had worked and playing with her brother’s head proved to be a good way to pass the time.
