Wireless woes

Apr 06, 2007 02:09

Just spend a good hour over the phone with Linksys rectifying some problems with my wireless router.

I was happily surfing earlier and I kept getting this irritating message prompt "IP address conflict with another system on network". I'm 101% sure my wireless network was WEP secured and only I get to connect to that network automatically by default. It's impossible that anyone would be able to connect to a network which I'm not sure what the 16 character password was (it's auto-connected, you see). So I clicked on the wireless icon, I was mortified to realise I'm actually connect to some unsecured network instead of my usual.

Oh gawd, I wondered ever since when was I connected to that unsecured network. It may sound like a "free for all" network if you are not subscribed or paying for any, but whatever information you input can be siphoned off by the owner of that network (if he knows how), and that includes your email passwords, bank pin and such. Never connect to someone else's free network, he can be bimbo who didn't secure or some techie waiting to get your passwords/pin numbers.

Without wasting another second, I terminated the connection immediately and do the universal rectification; RESTART every freaking piece of hardware. Alas, doesn't working either, seems that my network adapter is picking up 10 other signals from all my neighbours except mine ...

While typing this .. I got disconnected again ...

!!!!! ARGH
