This weekend I went to a Christmas party with a friend up in Roanoke, VA. We got to our hotel Saturday afternoon, checked in and immediately went into town for a drink (or two) and some dinner before the party. The weather wasn't all that great, but we did get to walk around a bit. It is a very nice little town with some great shops and restaurants. Before going to the party, we stopped at a 7-11 to pick up some ice and beer for the party. Standing at the checkout with my friend, the clerk (a young gir) asked if we wanted a bag and my friend replied, "No, we're just going to drink it now in the parking lot", yes he's a bit of a smart alec. I laughed at his comment and the clerk then asked my friend, "Is this your Dad?" referring to me. We both responded "What?" and she repeated her question. Now I know I have lots of grey hair, but I really don't think I look old enough to be the father of a 42 year old! Of course my friend had to regale this story to everyone at the party. Although a bit embarrassed, it did help to break the ice since I didn't know anyone there and I ended up having a really fun time.
