spatts5 ...in July went down to Myrtle Beach to celebrate my Dad's 90th birthday. My older brother, his wife and my older sister were also there. We've all visited my parents at different times, but I think my Dad really loved having us all there at the same time. No big party, we just went out to a very nice seafood dinner (although my Dad did have pork chops, but hey it was his birthday). What do you get a 90 year old man who has everything he needs, and wants nothing? I got him several gift certificates to local restaurants they like to eat at. It really took my Dad by surprise because he started to cry. It was only the second time in my life I have seen my Dad cry. Of course it made me cry too, but it was a happy cry.
That was the weekend my parents also dropped the bomb on us that they wanted to move back to NY (Long Island). They never said why but I think they want to be closer to my brother/sister "just in case" they need help. Also most of their friends in their neighborhood have died or moved away and I think they are a little lonely. Being back in NY they will get to see the grandkids and great grandkids more. I helped them fill out a few applications to Federally assisted living for seniors. They're now on the wait list (about a yr) for an apt on Long Island.
In August, I interviewed for the vacant supervisor position in my dept. You'd think my 6 years experience in the dept and the respect of many Sr. Managers in the company would be a plus, but I obviously didn't interview very well because they hired someone from outside. Oh well, just another person I had to train.
Two days after this interview, I interviewed with a great company for a great position that would have allowed me to move back to Atlanta, GA. I felt good about the interview but unfortunately the hiring manager was going on a two week vacation and was going to make a decision after that. Well those two weeks seemed like two months. I waited a week after the manager got back before I sent an email stating I was still excited about the position and how good I'd be for the company... no response. I waited another week and sent another email....no response. It's now the end of the third week and still nothing...I guess no news is bad news.
I joined a (straight) bowling league. A friend asked me if I wanted to join since her husband didn't want to do it (but he'll be coming to watch and cheer us on). I figured why not, it'll be fun to see how the other half bowls. The league only bowls every other Saturday so it won't be confining. Our team, "Living on a Spare", had a practice bowl last week and I bowled an 85 and a 134. Guess I need a little bit more practice.
