Crash, Poof

I'm sure Obama means well, but man.. who's going to buy that debt? Will China actually bite? Or are they going to skip that formality this time, and just go ahead and start the (digital) printing presses? Either way, here's to $10 for a loaf of bread by 2020..

I'm currently reading Crash-Proof by Peter Schiff. A pretty good read, and a great primer on what's going on economically between the US and the rest of the world. (Something that bears deeper analysis than it tends to get in the American media, particularly on market-watch type shows..) The book's kind of a bait-and-switch in a way, because it's subtitled "How To Profit From The Coming Economic Collapse," but I think his real motivation is to teach people basic economics, and educate them on the fundamental flaws in the modern US economy. It's funny to be reading some really great stuff about CPI and GDP, for instance, and then have him pipe up with an italicized "please keep reading, I'll tell you how to profit from this later!" :) It's obvious he doesn't have much faith in the attention span of at least some of his target audience. Which is.. understandable, ..and dare I also say ambitious?

As an aside (or not?), my current favorite economics blog is Zero Hedge. Digs up some really interesting stuff. Not sure who's behind it, though.

Lastly, on a completely different topic ... the US is now patrolling the Canadian border with unmanned drones. In MANITOBA. Is this really necessary? The only unpalatable thing I've ever heard associated with that province is the thistle. Well; that and the weather.. (Winterpeg.)
