Homophobic people really piss me off. This random girl that I know through my last girlfriend IMs me right.. It's actually not her but her friends and she says I'm boring so I tell her well I don't know you well enough to talk to you about much plus I've only been told that you're a bitch and that I should stay away from you, so I have been. Then she rattled off some lame insults followed by her calling me a fag and that I should stop getting my ass hurt. I jump on her telling her that she should really refrain from saying that and how she's a homophobic douchebag. She comes back saying something along the lines of OMG are you gay? I'm sorry. I have gay friends.
I tell her that having gay friends doesn't protect you against hurting other people. While I'm not gay I really hate when people say fag because there is zero reason for it. She goes on telling me how I'm too sensitive and how her friends call themselves fags, which in my opinion would only make things worse for the people who don't want to be called the word since it's only reinforcing it. Then the girl actually starts talking to me, telling me her friends were IMing me and not her and basically just saying I'm too sensitive about it.
While I may be sensitive on the matter it's only because it genuinely HURTS people's feelings when the word fag is thrown around and when people say that things are gay in a derogatory way. She was using the argument that it's only derogatory if you make it that way, but that's really not the case. I mean if I go around calling black people niggers they would never like it. It's the same thing with gay people.
I think it's really sad. Especially since most homophobic people don't even understand what they're doing, why they do it, and often hide behind things to show people that they are not homophobic. Often times, people don't even know what the word means. All in all, a distressing event. I wish I could say otherwise.. but what a stupid generation.
