CWC Week 1

Feb 21, 2015 13:35

Well what an exciting opening week of the Cricket World Cup!

It has been a joy to come home from work knowing that awaiting me are the highlights of that day’s matches and wow, there have been some stunners.

Ireland v West Indies was awesome, as was Scotland v New Zealand. I love getting the opportunity to see teams I don’t know very well play so watching Afghanistan v Bangladesh and UAE v Zimbabwe was a complete joy (and the matches were rather exciting too)

Then came New Zealand v England.

*swoons*

Wow. Just Wow. New Zealand were incredible. They are such a tight unit and utterly thrilling to watch. All credit has to go to them; they were immense. I could pick out individuals to praise but I’d only end up naming the whole team because they are that awesome. Good on you lads.

England need to keep their heads up. Ok, lets face facts: this is not going well so far. That is probably understating things but I am fiercely determined to keep believing in the England team because that is WHAT SUPPORTERS DO!

All this naysaying and bemoaning the scores is doing nothing but tearing down the team when they need our support more than ever. Anything is possible they just need to believe it (and so do we).

Though Woakes should be opening the bowling…like he was in Sri Lanka and during the Tri-Series. Credit also to Joe Root for doing everything he could to drag us to a somewhat less embarrassing score. I also hope someone gave him a hug after that innings because he looked so heartbroken and dejected when Finn’s wicket fell…

Oh well.

Week two promises to be as exciting as week one with plenty of interesting matchups.
