England v India: 3rd Test

Aug 01, 2014 12:20

England have stood up and been counted. The past is in the past now, let this be the step forward the team needed and let’s get behind them to make sure that it doesn’t stop here.

It was a wonderful match, luck was finally in our favour (for the most part) and the players took full advantage and were able to put on an amazing show to capitalise on their chances and get the win we all knew they were capable of.

Cook and Bell got back in the runs, Broad and Anderson were taking wickets, Ballance proved again that he is a great number 3, Root got a wicket and a very nice fifty, Buttler had an epic debut with both bat and behind the stumps, while Woakes was extremely impressive and really unlucky not to take a wicket.

Special praise has to be reserved for Moeen though. That six-wicket haul in the final innings was brilliant. He is improving all the time and is repaying with interest the increased faith Alastair is showing in him.

Long may this continue but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This is a step in the right direction, but just the first step. There are still another two tests in this series and a lot up in the air. It could go either way but I hope that England can take the confidence they gained in this match forward and shut the doubters up properly.

Test number 4: 7/8/14.
