Sorry, this is a tad dated...but I thought it worth mentioning anyway.

This is just sad. And bullshit. How the fuck does selling properties to real estate speculators do anything to revitalize neighborhoods that are dying? They're going to take them and make them over and overprice them to try score a killing, like real estate assholes ( Read more... )

I was writing a reply, but it got so big I'm just going to do another post. :)

One thing I will address here is your comment about people being "hardwired to cheat each other". I agree with you, that there is something naturally satisfying about a mutually agreeable trade. The problem with the market comes when trades are rigged to be unsatisfying to the consumer, but where he does not have a legal or "legitimate" choice. In those cases, many consumers will choose an illegal option...but they have to be forced into it.

Eric Flint talks about this regarding the whole "intellectual property" flap, and I think he's completely right. Most people will buy things even if they can get them for free, if the price is reasonable, because most people don't like to think of themselves as thieves. But if the price is too high, people will feel more justified ( ... )

I really want to respond to this and your new post, but I've been having headaches and sinus trouble lately, so what headspace I have is just barely covering other stuff. I'm very interested, though - hopefully I can respond soon!
