I saw the Writer's Block thingy (which I seldom if ever pay attention to) and had to respond.
Question:
If you could get your exercise by taking a pill, would you? Why or why not?
And my answer is...of course I fucking would. Who wouldn't?
I seriously have never met a single person who actually enjoyed exercise...and I ran track & field for 4 years in high school. People exercise for all sorts of reasons, but generally they are all because of the results of exercise, not the process. The process of exercise, aside from casual exercise like taking a walk or something, is grueling and painful. You are, literally, straining your body. It's not pleasant. When people say, "no pain no gain", they are not just being snide, nor are they exaggerating.
So yeah, if I could take a pill every morning and weigh a perfect lean, fit 150 lb. of solid muscle with good heart health and low cholesterol, I would absolutely do it. I seriously want to hear from someone who wouldn't.
(end note: I am aware that there are some pursuits which provide exercise but are enjoyable in and of themselves, to certain people...stuff like "playing football" or "rock climbing". I don't personally enjoy these, but some people do, and if that's their thing, that's cool. But I submit that those people might STILL choose to take exercise in pill form, because they don't do those things as "exercise", and would do them even if those things provided no benefits whatever...and in fact, they usually don't.
When I hear something refer to "exercise", my definition is "something you do to keep in shape". And even if some of us enjoy pursuits that involve exercising or exertion, few of us do them regularly or faithfully enough for them to be "exercise" in the sense of "something that keeps us in shape".)
