Top 5 Iron Man Armours

Apr 27, 2010 22:08

been a while since I did a good ol' fashioned Top 10 and I was too lazy to compile a full 'un, so here's a top 5 Iron Man Armours in honour of the cool exec with the heart of steel.

5. Hulkbuster Iron Man (Marvel)

This Suit makes the list simply for looks and the fact it can take on the Hulk. The comic it's first used in is rather dull with a lot of political mumbo jumbo about weapons and crap, with relatively little punching. In fact it makes more of an impact with the HB mk II in the "Execute Program" story arc, where a bunch of Iron Men go haywire, forcing Tony to take them out with the aid of the New Avengers. Nonetheless, the Hulkbuster is undeniably impressive and has become a fan-favourite.

4. War Machine (Movie)

Technically not a Stark armour, War Machine is still an Iron Man. Piloted by James "Rhodey" Rhodes, War Machine is one of the most heavily armed suits in the history of Iron Man and the movie version looks even better. Taking the basic Mark II look and making it more heavy-duty looking and militant, War Machine earns this spot as the second coolest movie armour.

3. Ultimate Iron Man Mark II-III (Ultimate)

The Ultimate Iron Man suit is one of the more controversial among fans, partially for the colour-scheme, partly because it doesn't look a lot like the Marvel Iron Man, but Ultimate Iron Man is one of my personal favourites. The bulky, chunkster design, coupld with a sweet helmet makes it a distinctly new suit, plus it's a much more realistic operation, with a whole team of people being needed just to launch the thing, making it a much more fallible, less uber-powered suit, unlike number 2...

2. Extremis Iron Man (Marvel)

The extremis suit is a bit of a misnomer, as extremis is the name of the virus which rewrote Tony's nerve system and internal organs, in order that he become a living Iron Man "inside and out," allowing him to have faster reflexes and greater synergy between man an machine. Not to mention it's the sleekest, most dynamic suit yet, and has become one of the defining suits of the '00s.

1. Iron Man Mk III, VI (Movie)

This was a close call between the marks III, and VI, so I decided not to call it, sadly Iron Man promo art has a habit of making the suits look much less cool than they are in the films, heightening the gold and red hues to extremes, creating the rather cartoonish VI you see above. The smoother, less boxy design of the mk III is pretty sweet, and the sleeker, triangle chested VI is very svelte. The mk III is the most traditional, with a nice pure red-gold colour scheme, the VI adds in some silver, which still looks ok, and has the more advanced (and in my opinion, cooler) triangular arc reactor. Both nice suits, making the Iron Man look good, even in three dimensions.
