Step 1. Put your playlist on shuffle.
Step 2. Post the first line from the first 20 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3. NO GOOGLING. (Or, as I call it, if you're curious about something, google after you comment, please.)
Step 4. Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.

THAT YOU KNEW "I'LL BE YOUR MAN" FROM THE VAGUE AS HELL FIRST LINES REALLY DOES MAKE ME WANT TO MARRY YOU.

Ahem. Well done! And yeah, it's "The Wonder of You." :)

I first heard the Black Keys at work in the Middle Of Absolutely Goddamn Nowhere, New Hampshire--I'm talking forty-minute drive for cell reception nowhere--of all places, and have been pretty solidly obsessed since.

I just remember it was "The Go Getter," kind of right after it had come out, and my coworker who'd sort of taken a shine on me was like, "This is just the sexiest music," and I really didn't know what to say to that so I tried to just kind of nod along and go with it. Then when I got home I looked 'em up, and my best friend was visiting and he was like, "What're you doing?" and I said, "Looking up the sexy music," and he was worried for me. :P

Typical Music Conversations with Sparrow and Her Father

My dad, upon hearing Passion Pit: The hell is this?
Me: It's Passion Pit and they're great.
My dad: It's noise.
Me: What did your parents think of Led Zeppelin?
My dad: They thought it was horrible.
Me: Well, exactly. And Led Zeppelin isn't horrible.
My dad: Fair enough, but this still is.
Me: ...so you're old?
My dad: No, your really does music suck.

Typical Music Conversation with Sparrow and her Mom

Me, when my mom is listening to alt/indie stuff: You knowthis song?
My mom: Yeah, I love it!

My mom, when I'm listening to songs that were big when she was younger than I am: You know this song?
Me: Yeah, I love it!

Both of us, always: The men in this family have no taste in music.

My dad was a high schooler in 1969 and therefore knows he's supposed to be a member of the luckiest musical generation in American history, but the truth is I listen to more of that music than he does.

My dad was at Catholic school in the late 60s/early 70s. *le sigh* But my aunt and her friends apparently talked to Paul McCartney on the phone in '64, so that's pretty bitchin'. And because small towns are small, there was a newspaper clipping about it. Somebody still has it...
