Where do you draw the line between a close friend and a "best" friend? How about significant other? Is it physical intimacy (which I can't believe because of so-called 'loose' people, who don't place sentiment with physical act) or emotional intimacy (which I can't believe because that's how I'd hope you treat any of your close friends.)
Is there any significance to the term "boyfriend/girlfriend", etc? Spouse, I can understand, in the sense of bonding yourself to that person through commitment. But that works between two friends as well, and has no need for further development.
