Oswin Theory Madness! part 1 of ? (SPOILERS)

Sep 03, 2012 16:47

So I have an absolutely insane theory, which is both wibbly-wobbly and timey-wimey, and possibly explodey-wodey. Also, Spoilers for Silence in the Library, Forest of the Dead, and Asylum of the Daleks. Well, pretty much everything else too. Here goes.

Moffat has been putting arcs for series 5+ into place since Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead. Hell, even the episode titles included arc words that would come into play in series 5 & 6! (As in, SILENCE, and FOREST - "the only water in the Forest is the River.")

I happened to watch FotD earlier today - after I'd watched Asylum of the Daleks.

I couldn't help thinking that Cal, from SitL/FotD kind of looks a little bit like a possible younger version of Jenna-Louise Coleman's character, Oswin. That may or may not be relevant.

ANYWAY

Some people have said the name "Oswin" could possibly be an acronym of "Operating System: WINdows" or "Operating System One" (as in, OSone, or OS1 = Oswin), which I think is really interesting, and I hadn't thought of this before. For the sake of this theory, I'll refer to the concept of 'computer Oswin' as "OS:Win".

Now time for a What If and some Mad Explaining - What If Oswin Oswald is a humanised computer mind (or variation thereupon), "uploaded" into a human body?

Now for the Mad Explaining - Oswin is very clever - and not just clever, a "total screaming genius". Not even the Doctor is clever enough to do what she does.

When she gets converted into a Dalek, she doesn't actually become a Dalek in terms of emotion, as any other human would - she remains HUMAN, with compassion, and fear, and love. In fact, she's pretty much perfect, if you discount her souffle-making skills, or lack thereof.

"Why IS she so perfect, though?" I hear myself ask, because Doctor Who theorising makes me talk to myself.

Perhaps this is because she was not actually born human - somehow she has been created in order to be perfect - super-intelligent, but with human qualities too. Maybe, a little bit like River Song - except she's not a weapon, just an accident.

Perhaps Clara Oswin is a different character in the Xmas special, who dies, and somehow the Doctor manages to save both, by merging them together - somehow there is "OS:Win" the computerised mind, existing only as thought or data, like Cal the computer - perhaps in some way she's even connected to Cal, I don't know.

By all accounts, she is a computer, but she's human too - or perhaps she's an artificial intelligence that is very nearly human.

Clara Oswald/Oswin also exists, and is just a regular garden human. Maybe she's clever, or kind, or special. Maybe she's not, though I think the Doctor believes everyone is special. Maybe the word I mean is significant.

Maybe somehow, Clara and OS:Win get merged together - creating a computer inside a human, kind of like the DoctorDonna - aka Oswin.

Then, perhaps the future Oswin - who gets trapped by the Daleks - loses the human body, but retains that super-intelligence and humanity, allowing her to create the dreamworld for herself and to save the Doctor, Amy and Rory.

Maybe she even manages to save herself, by uploading herself back into a computer system - maybe that's where she comes from in the first place - she becomes OS:Win again.

.........................................................

Phew. Anyway, I realise that a lot/most/all of this is probably way off - but I'm probably going to spend a LOT of time speculating about this character. I hope she's as good as we hope!
