[OOC] Return of Crit?

Oct 16, 2007 23:20

Okay, so I've heard some comments that I god-mode my characters. Guys, if you find a problem in any of my characters, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME UP FRONT. It's very awkward  and uncomfortable to hear someone else tell you that another mun thinks you have a problem. I would really appreciate it if you even PMed me or email or commented in ( Read more... )

Different anon! I was actually contemplating dropping you a comment about these things at some point (once I could properly phrase it), so it's heartening to see a post up.

But, essentially, I agree with most of what the anon above has stated. Additionally! It feels as though there's a certain amount of steering in some threads. The Brenda thread is one that comes to mind immediately, but there have been other instances where it feels as though you want your character to be perceived by the other character as a good guy! A decent person! Just and etc etc the anon, he is fairly incoherent in the morning! my apologies. ♥ And while we know this OOCly because, hey, Virgil and Aerrow, it's something that you as a player need to get across ICly by their actions and their words, not just OOC comments in the brackets or in the channel.

. . . to add to this, I'm only familiar with Aerrow's canon, and I do think you have the voice, and you play him well quite often! It's simply that there's this feeling of steering, which is . . . ( ... )

First anon says 'so signed' and that 2nd anon worded it much better than 1st anon ever could.

Both anons mentioned Aerrow's thread with Brenda as an example, so I'm curious ... what about it rubbed you the wrong way? As the other player, I feel at least a little responsible for that, and I'm sorry it apparently made some people uncomfortable.

For me (the first anon) part of it was the OOC/bracketed sort of insistence that Aerrow felt really bad -- as opposed to showing it. And it wasn't meant to be a 'this is a specific instance' (well, in a way, yes it was) but meant more as 'this is an exemplar of a pattern I see happening' if that makes any sense?

During the thread, the icons picked for those comments seemed to count as "show, not tell" to me. But I can tell how it might not read the same way to everybody? I'm not trying to be argumentative here, just trying to figure out what happened.

I'm wondering if that was a bad thread to pick as an example, I'm sorry if it was a bad choice, it was just the most recent. For me it was more of -- I guess to sort of reiterate what the second anon said, but a hitting over the head with LOOK SUCH A NICE GUY so the icons, plus bracketed emoticons plus OOC mentions sort of compounded. Which! I understand that many people don't like OOC stuff added as crit. So. Ah, I have no idea what to really say, many apologies.

Second anon over here! I referenced it for that reason -- the comments in the brackets that were less play and more about the character, if that makes sense? I also referenced that thread because there were a few comments in the channel that (unintentionally, I'm sure! which is why I said nothing) added to that sort of feeling.

I suppose it was less of a "well this is what happened" sort of thing and more "hey, this was reading as such and such, what's up?", if that makes any sense as well!

Ah. If it's from the comments in the channel, we were just joking around, really. But I'll try to keep it more to PM in the future~

First anon again -- I want to say that it wasn't meant to be about Brenda's part in the thread at all? At least, from me?

Sure! I had a crit post up earlier (USE THEM). I'm always happy to address any concerns with my characters, at any point of time. Nothing makes me happier ( ... )

Mmm. Thank you for replying! I don't think it's so much a particular critique of the situation, however, but a broader sense of you steer situations. I'm glad that it seems like you're taking steps to help and I think that you're awesome and really sweet ♥

Oh. I guess I should totally review my previous threads with other characters. I will definitely take steps! I really, really love these characters so much and I'd hate to fail them in any way. Also, I love RPing with you guys and the better player I am, the more fun we can have.

Thank you for your praise. :D I hope I make you proud.
