Threesome Monday continues. (Really, muses, you could've at least picked Tuesday or Thursday for that nice alliterative effect.)
She and Shizuka understand each other.
Kimihiro understands them, as well as anyone can understand a wife or a husband, but she and Shizuka understand each other on another level that Kimihiro has rarely thought on, if at all.
He is their center, and they not only both know it, they acknowledge that truth in each other as well.
Himawari spent a very long time learning to protect against her bad luck. She has never touched Kimihiro as much as he has wanted, not out of a lack of desire but from sheer necessity.
Shizuka knew without being told. The two of them understood each other without even speaking about it. They were one when it came to how they felt regarding one Watanuki Kimihiro.
It was in everything. In the early days, he had placed himself as a constant sentry. Neither of them would truly allow Kimihiro's feelings to rule the day, but Himawari understood temptation and consequences better than either of them, and the depth of her gratitude was fathomless.

Kohane knew she was really a replacement.
It wasn't that Shizuka-kun and Kimihiro-kun didn't love her. But even when the three of them were tangled between a layer of sheets, with the gentle pressure of the shop over them and a long day of university behind them, she knew.
They didn't love her any less than they ever had. Kimihiro-kun still made her favorite foods and Shizuka-kun would brush her hair out after a night when she'd been entirely too worn out to remember to braid it. They saw her, they knew her, and they loved her as much as she loved them.
But she was not the right shape. She was not the girl with bad luck tangled around her like unruly curls; she was not the girl with a bright smile and sad eyes and a gulf of untouchability around her.
Kohane did not mean to be a replacement. Shizuka-kun and Kimihiro-kun did not treat her like a replacement. But she knew, really, that she was; she was the girl who saw them, who could touch them, and not fear that her fingers would draw blood with the lightest touch.

1) I've wanted to write Kohane/Doumeki/Watanuki (or any combination thereof) ever since I saw someone complain that Kohane showed up in 205 and was interrupting Watanuki and Doumeki's lovely shippy moments. She's 21 now at least, I don't feel guilty.
2) Oh, please, Himawari ficlet, I have a ton of fics I should be working on, I don't need one more to add to the pile.
