Mancunian Hot Surprise

Jul 17, 2007 12:57

This weekend Lis and Andrew made a very unexpected detour to Manchester to stay for a few days. Lis rang whilst Mum and I were shopping in Asda, which led to a frantic last minute birthday shop which resulted in: Paint-Your-Own-Gnome, Clyde the sinister bobble headed pig, a velvet flower ornament type thing and some neon monster finger puppets. Oops.

After some frenzied cleaning of the flat, wrapping of presents and making an apple crumble Lis and Andrew arrived. Singstar was whipped out and Andrew did a good impression of Kylie. After a massive dinner topped off with apple crumble and ice cream we headed out to catch the train to Smile. We killed twenty minutes on the platform by making all the rude words we could out of 'Levenshulme Station'. Highlights included 'She-male', 'He-she' and simply, 'tits'. The only other person there got involved too.

Smile started off quite quietly, but very soon became more than a bit random. People who hadn't come to Smile in years were there - Firstly Beck, Gaz and Vic then later Ed, Matt, Martin, Julian, Ian... It was like Smile circa 2004 . Andrew and I choreographed a great new dance move which was busted repeatedly when we were next to the bar. Went to request and kept telling Lis I'd 'used my best handwriting so Woods has to play it'. He did, Andrew and I danced, Lis tried but somebody she hadn't seen in about 4 years decided to talk to her on the dancefloor for the duration of the song, hehe. Eventually ended up downstairs talking to people for a long time and stayed down there until the end of the night...

...Managed to get a husky voice despite there not being any smoke, woo. Next day we were all mega hungover and had a big family meal to attend, happy times. Hair of the dog and orange juice just managed to keep me awake. Big G's cooking was lovely, and it was nice to see everybody. Went out into the garden and got freaked out by next door's really intense staring cat sat on their upstairs windowsill. After the family visit sleep was needed but not had, as for some strange reason we decided that playing a very tired session of Eyetoy Groove would be a better idea. Singstar also had a revival...

Yesterday Lis, Andrew and I went to The Manchester Museum and we saw lots of dead stuffed things, contemplated taxidermy and dinosaur bones for Lis' birthday. We only had an hour though so we had to rush through a bit, I enjoyed the lizard who had no concept of his glass case and kept trying to get into the case next door and the stuffed albatross with only one eye... After the museum we came back and got ready very quickly to go out for some drinks for Lis' birthday with Stevie and Laura. Dropped into Fab Café (my first time ever) but it was very empty, so decided to go on to Retro where we spotted Ste McCabe and the indoors smelt very sweaty. We made friends with the bar man called Jack who was very friendly and Lis requested David Devant and then had a dance. Got checked out by a man who is in the film 'Dead Man's Shoes' very intensely.. When we got back about 3 had a big photo session with Lis and Andrew wearing a blonde (in the style of Paris Hilton) wig and a ginger (Lindsay Lohan) wig and then doing our best wonky eyes/pouts and trying to be quiet. Hahah...

So that's about it really. I go back to Dundee in about 5 weeks, possibly a bit less and I'm (generally) looking forward to getting back into it.. Anyway, best be going, bye bye for now xx
