@10 - I think they're wicked too! I saw a really cool one one made from coffee filters. It was actually really cool. Coffee Filter Prom Dress

For the duct tape dress, remember that duct tape comes in colors other than silver, and that the silver comes in various tones/shininess levels. I've made duct tape rose pens before, so we now have colored duct tape laying around the house, but no silver *lol*

Give me a letter :) (Not an uncommon one, like Z or Q, please!)

It's not really my style either; however, it does look good on her. Plus, it's amazing considering what it's made of!

Good, I was hoping you had heard of the scholarship! Of course, I can't really think of why you would be making the dress if you hadn't heard of it!!! Have you found a boy who will be willing to go in a duct tape suit?

I'll work on that "R" :)

It does look good on her! So far I've seen bubble wrap, tinfoil (all the time on 'future day' though gets on my nerves) and maybe a few other materials.

Yup! I'm going for every scholarship I can, and when i saw that i was too excited to go for it.
Lol, no I haven't found a boy to do it, and I'm not comfortable at all asking someone to go to prom. BUT you only need a couple, doesn't have to be girl/guy. So I'm doing it with my sister :) And if we do happen to get dates, we'll probably tell them then that oh btw you'll be wearing duct tape :P

Sounds awesome! I want to see your plans :) I've been into fashion and design lately!

This is the first time I've wished I wasn't in college *lol* Making a duct tape dress would be so WICKED fun! I just can't really justify spending that much time, energy, and money on making something that would be pointless! *sigh* So, I guess I'll just keep working on my Renaissance stuff... at least I can wear that somewhere; plus, I could wear it at Halloween, Purim, to a Faire, in a play - lots of options :) Plus, it's easily loanable to friends ( ... )

K, no problem! When we start, I'll update my progress on here and all :) You're great for advice.

Awww yeah i think it will be fun. But it's great you have Renaissance stuff. Didn't know you did :)

Yeah, me and my sister are going to practice making like a top first to see how it goes. We'll have to see then how we feel about the duct tape on our skin like that. The only reason we may not consider putting duct tape on fabric, is beacause of how the dresses are judged. Percent of duct tape is a big factor. But just making fabric out of duct tape and fabric is better than just covering already sewn clothes with duct tape, which i'm definately not doing.
I know no matter what the dress will be super hot! But worth it hopefully:)
Ugh that must have been horribel with that makeup! I've only ever worn makeup like 3 times because of my mom. I hate it.

I've done a bit. Not much though. So I'll definately keep you in mind! Thanks :)

I read the rules online. My impression of the "amount of duct tape" rule is that amount shown. There's no way they could tell the underlayer. Take the most recent winner: http://www.stuckatprom.com/contests/prom/graphics/contest/2009_1st_place.jpg

You can't tell what's on the underside of the dress, can you? The "amount of duct tape" thing is affect by the size of the dress and the additional features. If you make a "little black dress" out of duct tape, it's not going to have a lot of duct tape, but they won't be able to tell if there's tape on both sides or not. That make sense? You would get a higher "amount" score if you made a tape-on-fabric dress that's full length vs. a tape-on-tape dress that's knee length. At least, that's what I think they mean...

I'll be sure to post pics of my ren outfit once it's done :)

Well I think they're more just looking for people who had the material out of duct tape (whether covering material or 100% duct tape material) as opposed to just covering clothes. And of course what they see on the outside too.

Well, yes, of course it will look better if it's not just something covered it in. What I mean is: take some cotton muslin, tape duct tape onto that, then cut out the pieces, keep the muslin side to your body. I think it would be more comfortable that way than with tape on both sides...
