THE ONE
I must admit, I was rather shocked when Harry appeared in my fireplace, grinning from ear to ear, telling me that he had found The One. However, the story they're passing around at the Order, that I fell over backwards and hit my head on a side table when he told me exactly who The One was, is complete and utter rubbish, and I'd be very appreciative if someone would quell that rumor.
"Remus," he said, and I could tell already that he was so excited he might burst, "I've found him." He squealed after telling me this. I still haven't recovered full hearing in my left ear. It's not often that I see Harry bubbling over with happiness as he was, when he stood before me to tell me this news. And before you become surprised that Harry had said him, let me assure you that I figured out he preferred men five years ago, when I saw him kissing another boy behind a building in Diagon Alley. Never did discover who that boy was, however.
"Found whom?" I asked, because it was clear that was what Harry wanted me to ask.
"The One," Harry gushed. "My soul mate. He's the best thing that's ever happened to me, honestly Remus. You'll love him -- well, maybe not love him, as most people don’t, but you'll definitely like -- no, not that either. Anyhow, he's perfect."
The Floo flared up again, and a second person stepped through, immediately wrapping his arms around Harry's waist and kissing his neck. "Perfect," he said, "I'll agree with."
Well, I'll tell you I was so surprised to see another person that I stumbled back, and tripped over a rug, then hit my head on the side table. It had nothing at all to do with who had his arms around Harry.
"You scared him!" Harry was scolding when I came to, but it was clear that it was halfhearted scolding, as he hadn't moved except to turn around to face the man holding him. "I told you to give me five minutes."
"I always was the impatient sort." Then they were kissing, and I must admit that they do look good together. After a moment, I cleared my throat and Harry blushed a little and pulled away from the kiss.
"Remus, I want you to meet my boyfriend. Draco Malfoy. Draco, this is Remus Lupin." Harry tried to step away, but Draco wouldn't let him. It was rather amusing to watch for a moment, but then it looked like they were going to start kissing again and forget that I was in the room.
"We've met," I said, "Years ago at Hogwarts. You were -- " a disruptive brat and a menace to the rest of the class " -- a unique student."
"Charmed," said Draco, and I believe he'd used his father as reference for the look he gave me. "I've come for your blessing to date Potter, as I won't go anywhere near those horrid Muggles of his."
I thought this over for a moment. "Mister Malfoy, have you ever met an angry werewolf?" I asked, and Draco's face got impossibly whiter.
"I have not," Draco said, and raised his chin a bit with a sniff.
"Best keep it that way, then, hadn't you?"
Draco's eyes narrowed. It was clear he'd understood my meaning.
"Remus! You're scaring him." Harry petted his boyfriend's arm. "Don't worry, he's as mean as a newborn puppy."
"I'm not scared," Draco huffed quietly. "I'm terribly sorry to say that Potter and I must be going. I promised Mother we'd be at the Manor for lunch."
"Draco, it's ten-thirty." Harry smiled apologetically at me.
"Yes, well, we're going by carriage. I do detest Apparating when it's not necessary." It was clear that he was just barely restraining himself from tugging Harry back through the fireplace. He inclined his head. "Thank you."
I nodded back. "Harry, come to tea sometime. I've got a book that might interest you."
"Thursday?" Harry asked. Then the fireplace roared green, and Draco was shouting. He and Harry disappeared in a puff of smoke.
