Glitter on my skin, under my sweater.

So, um, am I supposed to be spending my twenties rewiring my brain? Like, is that the general standard for this time in life?  Because that's pretty much what I'm doing.  Here's an overextended metaphor:

Oh my god, that is the best description of the past several years I've seen yet.

Thirties: Forget about trying to do anything with the wires, and instead put up wallpaper over them and spend all your time trying to find a couch with a matching fabric pattern. Sublimate all to a desperate retreat into domesticity.

I agree that it's the best description I've seen, too. Especially the part about college. Oof.

Also, Ryan, you have got a real thing about home decorating. I'm going to go ahead and blame it on you having worked in an interior design shop, but seriously...just let it go. (I say, defensively, because sometimes I think about what I might want a house that I may one day have to look like. Is it so wrong?)

To be honest, it's actually even worse than that. It's the whole, "if I can't have nice things, no one can!" thing. Having said that I'm not too bothered by people wanting to create a comfortable home to live in. It's really the obsession with continuous redecoration, home improvement, etc. as some sort of stand-in for meaningful life accomplishments that annoys me.
