On Vox: Y'all don't know what to think.

Things I’m excited about:

-The show closing on Saturday so I can finally do things like re-hem my pants (which are tattered from where my heel comes down on them…I feel like I’m in high school again). Cooking again.  If it weren’t for Paul I’d be stuffing my face with co-op egg salad and Chipotle every day.

-Cleaning my house.  Moar stuff gone pls.

-Camping! Maybe even with canoes! Oh good lord I am SO EXCITED about being gone & outside.

-Karate classes! Writing every day!

-Mad King Thomas’ commission from the Southern Theatre & the Walker Art Center as part of Momentum 2011.  I’m excited that it’s a year away and I can get unburnt-out, and I’m excited because it’s kind of a big deal for us.

Things I’m worried about:

-No one showing up for the League of Red Herrings this weekend.  We’re self-producing, so nobody else is there to promote us, which means that we only get promoted as much as we care to.  And if you don’t care enough, you’re sure to die cold & alone, with your career in tatters around you.

-Prop malfunctions

-Dying cold & alone after being a secretary my whole life.

-No one likes our show! We have failed as artists! We are bad people!

Things I’ve been waiting to tell you about:

-Costa Rica, including but not limited to: kayaking solo on a crocodile-infested jungle river! Flying through the air at 60 mph, 600 feet in the air, attached to a cable by a harness!

-I guess I’m also waiting to share pictures with you of the above.

Books I’ve enjoyed lately:

Rebecca Solnit’s, “Field Guide to Getting Lost”

Steve Martin’s, “Born Standing Up”

I liked them largely because I felt like some part of my own story unfolded in them.  Or some part of what I hope will transpire for me.  Or something. Solnit’s book particularly resonated, with all the sitting around in the desert and wondering. I miss that.

Other than that, nothing is going on because everything is going on.  I have been working & rehearsing 15 hours a day about five days a week, and then working/rehearsing 3-8 hours on the remaining two days.  So yeah, I guess I don’t feel too bad about wanting the show to be over with.  The rest of my time is devoted to eating, sleeping, listening to Lady Gaga and Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, and veering wildly between hope for the future and utter despair.
