Alas, poor Hyundai, I knew you well...

It finally happened: Big Red died last night. On my way home from the doctor's office (as if my day could have gotten any worse!). She started lurching and chugging, so I pulled over at a gas station. I called The Don, who suggested I try to start her again. No luck. But strangely, it was behaving the way that cars do when their batteries die. So, I thought, hmm...maybe a jump can get me home. Nice gas station clerk gave  me a jump.  I made it out of the parking lot and into the middle of traffic in a construction zone.

So, here I am, trying to push my car back into the parking lot (up a slight incline I might add).  Two very nice ladies and one teenage boy jumped out of their cars to help.  A bunch of constructiony-worker-looking men just sat and watched.

Piper and I then waited for The Don to come get us.  And waited.  And waited.

He gets there, we futz with the car and then decide to call a tow truck.  In the middle of explaining to said tow company, my cell phone died.  (It had a dead battery that was easily fixable with rechanging).   The nice folks at Zeppe's pizza let me use theirs.

45 minutes later, we were home.  I then took The Don's car to get my prescription for antibiotics.  I come home to find mysterious pieces of car all over the driveway.  Apparently the harmonic balancer SHREDDED.  This is somewhat concerning, since when we had the car in to be looked at a few weeks ago (when they originally told us it needed an engine transplant), they obviously never looked at the harmonic thingamawhatty.  If they had, we could have replaced that and it wouldn't have needed a new engine.  Problem now, is who knows what kind of damage was done since the belt went.

*Sigh* now going to have to fight with mechanic to get them to cover at least part of the repair, since they really shouldn't have missed this--after all--the Don discovered it within / hour and he's a number cruncher!

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I am carless, at the moment, but that's ok.  However, Piper is eating the phone book, which is not ok, so I shall end this post here.
