Going live at 8pm tonight,
a charity auction on ebay for a unique Sparklewren cincher, made to your waist size! Inspired by the embroidered Edwardian design below... Starting bid of 1GBP!
As some followers of my work will already know, I write for
Foundations Revealed published by the inimitable Cathy Hay. Some of you will also already know that Cathy and her partner Demi recently returned from a charitable trip to Haiti with an organisation called
RandomActs (please click through to learn more about the project).
Well, Cathy's brilliant fundraising efforts
(involving a project to recreate a fully beaded 1903 Worth evening gown!) are not over yet. The charity has extended the fundraising deadline until the end of July, since their original efforts did not raise quite as much as they had hoped. The building of the Jacmel orphanage requires more money and that's all there is to it.
[Sketch of a unique Sparklewren cincher. Bid to help Haiti and win this design made to your measurements.]
In an effort to do my part, I am offering up for auction an elaborate (and, I hope, deliciously tempting!) Sparklewren cincher, as per the above design sketch. The winning bidder will receive a heavily embroidered cincher in muted golden silk, made to their waist size (4" smaller than your natural waist, including a 2" lacing gap).
[This sample corset made use of AtelierSylphe's Edwardian corset pattern,
La Spirite, with silk embroidery of mulberry leaves and moths to decorate. This corset and Cathy's dress project, are our inspiration. Sloping Edwardian-inspired seams and gussets, beautiful golden silk and glowing pale silk embroidery, will give you a beautiful historically-inspired garment.]
As Cathy's project centres around "the Peacock Dress" and I am a sparklewren, I will be embroidering this piece with some sort of bird motif. "Riding lacing" detail at front will allow for some flexibility with the fit and incorporate another historical detail.
[The cincher will feature shaping similar to the corset shown above. Pointed centre front and back, with narrow sides. A very pretty and flattering cut.]
Please see Cathy's
ebay listing for more details or to make your bid. With a starting bid of 1GBP, anyone could win! 100% of the money goes towards the fundraising total (except 4GBP towards postage) and the corset will be completed within four months. I'm really excited about this little cincher as it is something I've had in mind for a while. If I'm able to make it, enjoy sending it to the winning bidder, and help the Hope2Haiti team, then so much the better!
Please spread the word friends. This is a chance to win something unique (perhaps at a lower cost than if you were to place an order) *and* have the privilege of feeling like you've done something worthwhile at the same time.
