Limited edition Sparklewren corset dresses

As my followers and friends will know, I have eclectic tastes. I'm as much in love with sturdy vintage-inspired cups as I am by Victorian midbusts, with a real passion for achieving an harmonious silhouette whether it be waspy, voluptuous or athletic.

My first corset dress reflected some of these interests. Structure and shape is emphasised with extra-wide hips, half-cups, and decorative ribbons. Traditional spot broche coutil is complemented by satin ribbons beautifully. This is one of my very favourite recent designs and I am keen to build upon it now that I'm less busy and have a couple of new client slots available.

You can see how this corset dress is cut quite short with daring half-cups. Well I have also sketched and imagined this idea taken forward in a few different ways, drafting other variants and imagining other tones and details... for example, ribbons could be criss-crossed in a more revealing way for the very risque among you. A regular overbust cut could be used for those who want greater coverage and a more versatile dress. Ribbons could be omitted entirely or additional decoration such as ethically sourced silver-grey rabbit fur could be used. Black, grey or dyed broche could be used instead of white (I imagine a rich pink or muted violet could be amazing), coloured ribbons could contrast against the fabric, or the bust and hem could be cut into interesting lines such as an asymmetrical skirt or sweetheart bust.

I'm keen to make a couple of new pieces to explore some of these aesthetics. Perhaps your dress would extend to your knees, feature woven ribbons across the entire front panel, have ribbons placed in homage to lattice corsets, or extend for a high back with attached straps. I'm keen, happy and excited to explore these ideas with you!

A few sketches to get your imagination going:

You can see with this old sketch that I was daydreaming about attempting to steam-mould a corset somehow. That experiment has yet to happen! But this was the sketch that eventually lead to the above design. It features less coverage through the ribbons and lower cut cups... very cheeky ;-)

With this sketch I was thinking of diagonally placed exterior casings beneath the functional casings (as I have done often in the past) instead of ribbons, to emphasise the hourglass figure through the shadow and texture of broche rather than the gloss of satin.

This is a sort of hybrid idea, where I was thinking about a drape of rabbit fur or lace at the top and ribbons at the skirt part.
